11 "Glee" Moments That Still Send Chills Down My Spine
ABC News

I know that Glee was a popular show when I was in middle school and that looking back on it, it seems kind of dumb. I recently started watching some of the episodes again because I forgot a lot of what happened. I stopped watching when the 5th season came out, and so I don't know how the last third of the show ended.

But even though the show was highly unrealistic and overdone, there were moments that spoke to me and made me cry. Such as:

1. When the New Directions collaborated with the Haverbrook School for the Deaf.

I love sign language and I also love singing, so when Glee combined the two for their performance of "Imagine" by John Lennon, I was immediately taken in. The Glee club didn't connect the two together because Deaf people can't hear, so how could they sing? They were proven wrong--the performance was heartwarming and brought tears to my eyes the first time I watched it.

2. When Blaine kissed Kurt for the first time.

I was such a Klaine shipper back in the days that I watched the show (Kurt was my favorite character). Blaine admitted that he was taken in by Kurt, and wanted to spend more time with him. Seeing a gay relationship on TV made me happy because the LGBTQ community doesn't get nearly enough positive screen time. Then they sing a really cute duet together and it warms my heart.

3. When Karofsky attempted suicide.

I actually liked Karofsky as a character. He showed that no everyone is going to be nice to you, but they always have a reason for being mean. He functioned as an antagonist that was bullying Kurt throughout the beginning of the show for being homosexual, but he had a secret that he was suppressing: He's gay, too. When he was outed, he couldn't take looking at anybody's face anymore and he attempted to hang himself in his closet. Thankfully, his dad found him before things took a turn for the worse and he got better.

4. When 4 couples broke up at once.

With an episode title of "The Break-Up", you know that one couple is in danger of breaking up. With all the drama going on in season 4, it's hard to tell who it's going to be, but you don't have to guess because all of the above breaks up at the end of this episode. Kurt and Blaine, Rachel and Finn, Brittany and Santana, and Emma and Will all forgo their relationships for one reason or another, whether one of them cheated on the other or they just can't handle being long distance. The part about this that gets me the most is that they show flashbacks of the couples all happy and in love. It basically wrecked my life for about a week.

5. When Artie dreamt that he could walk.

Artie lost the use of his legs in a car accident and was wheelchair bound thereafter. He always dreamed of becoming a dancer, and so in "Dream On", he imagines himself being able to walk and performs a flash mob to "Safety Dance". He is unstoppable in his routine, but when he comes back to reality, he is slightly disappointed. He admits to Tina that one day, he will dance. Artie wasn't the most interesting character personality wise, but I always felt for him having to be in a wheelchair while everyone else was able to walk.

6. When Finn gave Rachel a star for Christmas.

Finn Hudson was one of the boys that I always had a crush on. Cory Monteith was just so charming and goofy, and that showed in Glee. He had a very romantic side to him as well. When Rachel kept asking him for all these fantastic Christmas presents, he pulled through and did something even more meaningful. He bought her a star that he named "Finn" so that no matter where Rachel was, she could look up at the sky and know that he's always watching over her. This becomes even more sincere when you take in the fact that Cory Monteith died of an accidental drug overdose, and so they also wrote that into the show. I always wanted someone to buy me a star, and this moment just made me smile and cry all at once.

7. When the New Directions took home a Nationals victory.

There was so much defeat and unhappiness surrounding the competitions that the Glee club took part in. They were hungry for a win and so whenever they didn't place, it hurt them and it also hurt the audience. They wanted to see this group of teenagers that started from nothing finally succeed and win the competition that they worked so hard for. It was satisfying for all involved.

8. When we found out that Shelby is Rachel's mom.

I used to love Idina Menzel and when I saw her on the show, I was really happy that I would get to hear her sing. Rachel constantly wondered where her mother was because she grew up with two gay dads. She felt like a part of her was missing without knowing who her mother is. Jesse helped her find Shelby and the two did what any reunited mother and daughter would do: sing together. She did come back to see Rachel sing "Funny Girl" and that was really sweet, but I wish this storyline was more developed throughout the show. You take what you can get.

9. When Becky shot the gun accidentally in school.

This was one of the most chilling moments of Glee. I wasn't particularly a fan of season 4 without so much of the old cast. It felt too disconnected following the high school students and then also everyone in college, but this episode was different. School shootings happen way too often and watching how it affected these students felt so real and it shook me for a while. Sue took the blame for it, protecting Becky and doing something selfless for once. She got fired for admitting to it, but that was a small price to pay in order to keep Becky at McKinley.

10. When the old members of the Glee club come back to McKinley to honor Finn's death.

This episode is the only one in season 5 that I actually watched. Like I said before, I loved Cory Monteith so much, and when the original Glee club came back to remember him, it just brought tears to my eyes all throughout the episode. It was a beautiful tribute to an amazing boy on the show and in real life. The circumstances of the situation were devastating, and I think the writers did a fantastic job of making his life part of the show, all the way up until his final moments.

11. When Finn says goodbye to Rachel as she goes to New York.

This is one of those scenes where I always cry if I watch it. Rachel got accepted into NYADA while Kurt and Finn were rejected from their schools of choice in New York. She was going to stay behind and help them both with their applications, but Finn decides that he wants her to go to New York and fulfill her dream of becoming a Broadway performer. He tells her, "You're going to be a star. Without me." This tugs at everyone's heartstrings knowing that Finn really was never going to see Rachel get her Tony award in the final season. He didn't get the chance to see her succeed, and it hurts my heart to think about it because I know that he would have been extremely proud of her.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

1. The Legacy.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
