Are you a parent of a college kid and you have no idea what to get them for Christmas? Coming from a college student, here is some advice when getting gifts for the upcoming holiday season!

1. Warm clothes

When you're in college and you have to wait at a bus stop for 10 or so minutes and then have another 10 minute walk to class, it really sucks when it's thirty degrees outside. Keep your college kids warm this semester. One of the most popular items of the season is the new fleece sherpa quarter zip pullover from PINK for $80, which may seem like a lot, but trust me it's so worth it.

2. Money

We are all broke. That's about it. Any college student would be more than happy to wake up to a crisp $50 bill in their stocking. How else are we going to buy pizza after the bar?

3. Animals

This is a no brainer. Even if you're kid isn't in college, one of the greatest things that you can get for ANYONE is a puppy or a kitten. There's no greater feeling than waking up to a little baby kitten or a little pupper sitting under the tree with a bow on their head.

4. Alcohol

I'm not necessarily telling you to go out and buy your college kid moonshine, but college is stressful. A bottle of wine comes in handy here and there when studying for finals.

5. Tickets (concert, vacation, etc.)

There are so many fun things that all college students want to do before they're out of school and have to face the harsh reality that they are finally adults. Everyone loves going to concerts and going on vacations. Surprise your college student this Christmas with tickets to see their favorite musician, or an airplane ticket and let them make their own adventure. The best thing about this gift is that your college student will thank you every time they look back on that memory.

6. Room decor

Who doesn't love to spice up their living space every once in a while? If your college student is living in an apartment or a dorm, see if there is any furniture or decorations that they have been wanting to get, but just haven't had the funds to do so.

7. Food

This one explains itself, but doesn't necessarily mean that you have to go out and buy your college kid tons of food for them to hull back to school. Instead, get them a gift card to their favorite restaurant near campus or even a Giant or Weis gift card, so that they can go and get their own food.

8. School supplies

Although no college student wants to think about anything related to school over Christmas break, but believe me, school supplies are appreciated. This can include anything from pens and paper, to a computer.

9. Mani pedi or another destress treatment

If you have a daughter in college, she would love to go out and have a girls day and get her nails done. All girls love mani pedi's, unless you hate having your feet touched, but this is one of the best forms of de-stressing after a long semester. Massages are a great idea too!

10. Netflix subscription

I'm sure most college students already have these, but this is a very important thing for every student to have.

11. Blankets

If you're like me, you can never have enough blankets. There's nothing better than coming back from class and snuggling up in a great big, furry blanket and then binge watching your favorite shows on Netflix.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
