11 Things You Experience When You Adopt A Kitten

"What greater gift than the love of a cat?"

11 Things You Experience When You Adopt A Kitten

Adopting a kitten is a big responsibility, but it's also the best decision I've ever made. I have a new best friend that loves me as much as I love her! However, it is an adjustment. Learning how to take care of an animal is a little difficult at first, but you can figure it out pretty quick. Plus, the rewards are so great when you earn its love and trust! So, here are 11 things you experience when you bring that sweet kitten home!

1. At first you feel like you have to protect it from everything.

Kittens are so, so, so tiny and it feels like the slightest bit of pressure will crush them, so you spend the day protecting them from everything. However, you only keep this up until you see it jump from a something taller than you, and you realize it can definitely hold it's own.

2. You want to photograph everything it does.

Basically your Snapchat story is going to be cat pictures for forever now. Every little thing it does is literally the cutest thing ever, and of course you have to document it! You may even go as far as doing a newborn photo shoot with your new baby... You can never have too many pictures!

3. You worry about every little abnormal thing.

"Oh no, she hasn't touched her food in the 15 minutes it's been out. I must have bought the wrong kind. Did I get her enough toys? I hope she likes her water bowl." If this is your first time adopting, then you probably have no idea what you're doing. Just turn to Google, and don't freak out over every little thing! Chances are, your cat is just fine.

4. It's way more active than you thought it would be.

"Wait, aren't cats supposed to be lazy? I thought it would just snuggle with me all day." It's still just a kitten, and it's going to be super playful for a while. So, when it does get tired and snuggles with you, it's even better. Plus, it's pretty funny to watch them play!

5. You worry it doesn't like you.

It's a struggle. Cats aren't the most loving pets, and sometimes it feels like they hate you. They don't though! They just want some space sometimes, and are very loving when they wants to be! She loves you more than you think, so just be patient and love on it when it wants to cuddle.

6. It likes to wake you up.

It doesn't matter what time it is; if it wants to play, it's going to wake you up. So at three o'clock in the morning, you may feel a little paw start patting on your face. Or even worse, you may just get pounced on! Don't forget the licking -- nothing like having a little sandpaper tongue licking your face in the middle of the night!

7. People really aren't kidding when they say you won't get anything done.

Honestly, your cat will probably be right on your keyboard when you're trying to finish your essay. Plus, it'll probably choose to come cuddle with you as soon as you've convinced yourself to be productive. So you say, "Well, I guess that can wait until later," and then cuddle with your little furball for a bit.

8. You don't really realize how much of a cat person you are until you get one.

You might think you like cats, but until your own wide-eyed, little ball of fur looks up at you, you don't know you're truly converted. Your cat will probably be your best friend. Just accept it. I promise it isn't too lame.

9. That moment when you realize it's the cat "love of your life."

When you first bring it home, you worry about whether or not you picked the right one. However, it won't be long until you realize that you didn't just pick the right one, but you picked the perfect one. This is the cat that you will love, and get love from in return for "as long as you both shall live!"

10. You'll probably think your cat is the cutest in the world.

Of course it is. You'll brag to your friends about how you just adopted literally the cutest cat ever. You'll flood your social media with pictures of it to bless your friends with it's adorable-ness. That's perfectly fine, and you shouldn't feel bad about it for one minute!

11. You realize just how special it is to gain a cat's love.

While cats can be very loving, it's a bit harder to get it from them. So, when you finally win your kitten over, you know you deserve it! It loves you unconditionally, and it doesn't get any better than that!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
