We all have special little things about where we come from, such as restaurants, the type of people who live there, and all the infamous landmarks. The special thing about Loudoun County is that even though it is such a large county, almost everybody who lives there notices the same exact things. The traffic, the people, and the things everybody makes fun of. Even though sometimes our county can get a little overwhelming (and expensive), none of us would trade it for the world.
1. The never ending traffic
You can pretty much see these signs every time you go out driving. Also, because of this traffic, everybody from Loudoun County knows not to drive after 4 P.M. every day unless they want to be stuck in traffic for over an hour.
2. A million snow days thanks to Western Loudoun
Since the western side of Loudoun County is either rural or in the hills, it makes it extremely difficult for buses to drive in winter weather. If there is ever a chance for a snow day, all of the kids from the eastern side of the county always count on Western Loudoun. This leads to...
3. "Hello, this is Wayde Byard."
Any time the phone rings during the winter every student is waiting to hear Wayde's voice come on and tell us that school is closed. Also, the man behind all the infamous memes.
4. Being able to find a 7 Eleven on every cornerNo, seriously, even if there was one less than a mile away, you could still probably find another one.
5. Being from the "richest county in the country"
But then realizing you're broke as hell...
You can't drive anywhere without seeing a mansion and thinking, "Wow that's my dream home," and then realizing, "Who needs that much space?"
7. A million high schools that all seem to hate each other
There's also a balance between the good schools that seem to make it to states every year and the bad schools who get lucky if they win two games a season.
8. Sterling is considered the "ghetto"
I'm from Sterling and I promise it's really not that bad (but it's not great, either).
9. Ca$hburn
Also known as Ashburn, Virginia but the size of the houses and the cars a majority of the people drive there just scream money.
10. Slang that nobody understands
I won't name any because they're all inappropriate, but if you're from Loudoun, you probably know what I'm talking about. You'll also probably get this look if you use that slang while talking to people who aren't from Loudoun.
11. Going to Washington, D.C. at least 10 times for school field tripsTrust me, it gets old after the 5th time.
I truly hope these few things made you laugh, roll your eyes, or nod your head in agreement. Not only is Loudoun County extremely recognizable, but we can all relate with each other on these few things. From the farm side of the county to the always busy eastern side of the county, Loudoun will always be our home.
