Who doesn't love a good Disney song? They are catchy and you already know all of the words because they have been hanging out in your brain since your childhood. Sometimes it is good to change them up and remix them for everyday adult life. Don't get me wrong, the originals will always be great but some covers are just as good as the old ones and can be played at a few more occasions. Jonathan Young does a wonderful job at taking some of our favorite childhood tunes and remaking them into something fresh. Below are eleven Disney covers from Jonathan Young that you need for your daily Disney jam sessions.
1. Let It Go - Frozen
I know, most of you are probably completely over this song. Those of you who feel that way, can feel free to skip down to number two. For those of you who aren't, this cover is interesting because it is from a male point of view. It is fun to hear the song from a whole new perspective.
2. Mine, Mine, Mine - Pocahontas
I adore the fact that he covered this song. I feel like it is one of the underrated Disney songs out there. Plus, like any of the Disney villain songs, this song translates easily to the faster paced rock style that Jonathan Young has for his music.
3. Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride - Lilo & Stitch
Who doesn't love the original version of this song? The cover seems even more upbeat and fun than the original. Who knew that could be possible? This song could easily make an appearance at any party and start a sing-along frenzy.
4. Be Prepared - The Lion King
Fair warning: it gets a little creepy and metal so if you do not like that type of genre, this song might not be for you. Maybe I am just a sucker for the villain songs, but I am completely in love with this song and the cover. I think the harder rock works really well for this song and is perfect for aspiring air guitarists to practice their solos.
5. I Just Can't Wait to Be King - The Lion King
Did you think we were finished with "The Lion King"? Oh no, we had to make sure this one was mentioned as well. The movie is full of so many wonderful songs, it is hard to narrow down just which ones to pick. This one is fun and happy which makes it easy to whip out for any occasion. Jonathan Young does take a crack at some of the other popular songs from the movie as well if you want to check those out.
6. On My Way - Brother Bear
This is another underrated Disney song in my opinion which is part of the reason that I can't get enough of this cover. Of course I love the original, but the beginning of this cover just has a way of hitting me right in the feels. Is it just me or can you see yourself blasting this down the highway on your next road trip?
7. Gaston - Beauty and the Beast
This song is so funny originally and the cover definitely does it justice. Plus, if nothing else, the music video is worth the watch. It is completely ridiculous and everything that you need to liven up your day.
8. Zero to Hero - Hercules
Who doesn't love a great duet? This one is phenomenal and the perfect chance to grab your bff and force them to belt it out with you in front of everyone. Make sure to turn this up extra loud though so you can drown out your own horrible singing.
9. Go the Distance - Hercules
I like how this one was sped up a little bit compared to the original. It still keeps the integrity of the original which is inspiring and perfect for any time you need a little pick me up. After you are finished singing this one, you will feel like anything is possible.
10. Kiss the Girl - The Little Mermaid
Does he do as good of a job as Sebastian at singing? No, but who could? Does he do a better job than Scuttle at singing? Definitely, but I would hope he could otherwise this list is worthless. This is another fun and upbeat song to blast with your bffs and belt out. This is another one that has a funny music video and worth it to watch that if nothing else.
11. I See the Light - Tangled
Another marvelous duet for those days when you need to curl up in a ball and cry. Everyone knows that the original is so beautiful and moving so this cover had to do it right. This duet is just as emotional as the original and definitely worth a listen.
Those are some of my favorite Disney covers from Jonathan Young but he has plenty more to choose from. If you didn't see your favorite song on the list, I highly recommend looking him up and seeing if he has a version of it. He also does other covers from The Hobbit, Dreamworks movies and current artists if you are looking for something different.
