The Freshman 15 is a well-known (and very real) phenomenon, but what they fail to tell you is that there is the Sophomore 30, the Junior 45, and so on.

So how do we prevent this and maintain a healthy lifestyle while on a college budget and with an intense schedule? Read below to find 11 cheap and easy ways to help ensure that you're living your healthiest life.

1. Drink lots of water

Okay, this one is extremely obvious, but way too often do people not actually do this. It's hard to choose water (especially on a college campus when options seem endless), but invest in something that will help you reach your daily water goal (for me it was my prized Camelbak).

2. Walk instead of drive

Trust me, I know how tempting it is to drive to your 8:00 am. However, if you live within a reasonable walking distance, walking to-and-from class can actually make a huge difference. Keep track of your daily steps and notice how many more you get on the days that you walk to class!

3. Cut down on your alcohol intake

This is the one most college kids hate to hear: but yes, alcohol has been proven to interfere with weight loss. It's alright to indulge occasionally (especially with the stress of the 2016 election, am I right?), but make sure that if weight loss is one of your fitness goals, you're finding something else to drink most weekends.

4. Take the stairs

Trust me, unless you have an injury or a physical disability, you do not need to ride the elevator up one floor. Taking the stairs whenever it's an option is a great habit to get into.

5. Join an intramural team

Grab a few friends and sign up for one of the many intramural teams offered either through your university or a local rec center. It's an easy (and fun) way to ensure that you get exercise at least a few times a week.

6. Research healthy eating options on campus

It's so easy to fall into the habit of getting your favorite meal on campus (hello, pizza bagels?) but you'd be surprised at the number of healthy eating options on a college campus. Most colleges have online nutrition information, and you may be able to find some new healthier favorites.

7. Find a workout buddy

Personally, I feel much more motivated when I'm working out with someone else.

8. Keep to a normal sleeping schedule

As difficult as it may be, try to go to bed and wake up at a consistent time each day. Your body will thank you!

9. Always take off your makeup

While this applies (mostly) to women, it's a huge one. Taking care of your skin now will save you scarring, acne, and wrinkles in the future.

10. Wear sunscreen every single day

Your skin will thank you, trust me.

11. Write down fitness goals and stick to them

Writing it down will help to keep you on track.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
