11 (Cheap) Things To Do With Your Friends This Summer That Won't Break The Bank

It is summer time. You and your friends are hot, bored, and antsy. But you can't spend too much money because you need too be able to plan for that post grad life (graduate school, getting out of your parent's house, traveling, paying back those student loans...) So what to do, what to do? Well my friends, I have some suggestions -- 11 to be specific:

1. Go hiking! Find some trails! If you are from Massachusetts, then you have access to so many trails! In addition, you can go geocaching, tubing, camping.... The picture below is of Bash Bish Falls State Park in Mt. Washington, MA. And it is completely free to the public!

2. The picture below is not from a fairy tale. It is the Bridge of Flowers located in Shelburne Falls, MA. It is also completely free to the public. Go take some killer selfies and stop and smell the roses, or hyacinths, or morning glories. While you are up there, go visit all the cute little stores and the Glacial Potholes (which are also free to the public).

3. Go to the movies. I know, I know, naysayers are screaming at me through their screens: "movies? Do you know how expensive they are?" But you are forgetting: $5 Tuesdays! Also, if you go early in the day for the matinee, you get a super good deal as well!

4. Some of you may already know about this one. Some of you may not. You know that library card that's been lying stagnant in your wallet? Mostly every town has a public library, and as Jessica Day from "New Girl" said libraries are so much more than books now. They have so many awesome events and 99 percent of these events are free free free.

5. Go thrift shopping! Have fun with it, be competitive with it, see who can get the most with $10!

6. Do a clothes swap! Everyone brings a certain amount of clothes (I would suggest ones that you are not attached to), put on some tunes, make some nachos, and have your own fashion show.

7. Go to one of the many free concerts or festivals offered in your state. In order to figure out where these awesome, fun, (and often wicked yummy) events are at, I would suggest checking the weekend section in the Thursday newspaper. The newspaper can be found in CVS, a newsstand (yes, those still exist, or your local library).

8. Try to cook a meal using only the ingredients you and your friends have on hand! Who knows, you guys might create a super delicious new recipe?

9. Harry Potter marathon. Enough said. Maybe even combined with a trivia night. Maybe even combined with some wine.

10. We all have board games lying around in our basements. They have sat there for years accumulating dust, reminding us of that one game of monopoly that never ended. But it's time to wipe off all that dust and organize a game night!

11. Have pets? Go to a dog park! You can meet new people, meet new puppies, and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
