Us Northerners face major challenges just to get to class during winter. On freezing, frigid days the struggle to leave a cozy, warm bed is way too real. From windburn stinging your cheeks to finding parking when it's just too cold to walk, winter seems to really have it out for us Milwaukee citizens. Here are the biggest challenges we face to survive winter in Milwaukee.
1. The Wind
Your face feels numb and on fire at the same time; by the time you get to class you feel like you've trekked across the Arctic Tundra.
2. Parking
Finding a place to park during winter can be a near-impossible feat due to snowbanks overflowing onto the street. This usually results in lots of trips around the block, excessive swearing and occasionally crying in your car.
3. Layers on layers on layers
The coldest days require an immeasurable amount of clothing, causing slight loss of limb mobility.
4. Wanting to shed those layers the minute you walk inside
Finally arriving at class means going from freezing your booty off to feeling like you've just stepped into a sauna. Who knew you could sweat so much in winter?
5. Avoiding ice patches like your life depends on it
Let's be honest: we've all fallen on our faces in front of a large group of people on our way to class.
6. Staying warm while going out
Finding the perfect balance between looking hot and dressing for the whether is an acquired skill.7. Keeping your heat on as low as possible without freezing to death
Turn your heat up to a comfortable temperature and yes, you'll stay warm but at what cost? Heat is ungodly expensive.
8. The constant struggle to get out of your warm bed
Why would I leave my bed if I can just stay in it all day?
9. Snow soaking through your shoes
As if getting around in winter wasn't hard enough without soaking wet feet.
10. Dirty snow
Living in such a pretty city, it must be a winter wonderland when it snows, right? Wrong. After about three hours, it becomes a dirt filled mess.
11. The bone-chilling cold
To sum it up: Milwaukee is cold. So cold that it seems to seep into the deepest parts of your body and stay there for days. But hey, it makes us tougher right?
