Growing up, watching One Tree Hill with my sister was definitely a highlight. The show is so real and I never thought that I would learn so much from it. As I was young when it first started, I didn’t always understand what was going on at the beginning, but I loved the music and the characters. Once I got old enough to understand it, I watched it again… and again and again. Now there are quotes from the show that I live by and most of them are from the one and only, Brooke Davis. Brooke is the character that grew the most as a person, in my opinion. And although there were many times that she was wrong, there were also some times that she was very right.
1.“If you had a friend that you knew you’d never see again, what would you say? If you could do one last thing for someone you love, what would it be? Say it. Do it. Don’t wait. Nothing lasts forever.”
This is so true. Nothing lasts forever. Friends move away. People you love, pass or move on. If there’s something you want to say to them or do for them while they are still around, do it because you never know when they will be gone. You never know when your last day with that person might be. If you don’t say anything or do anything, you might regret it and you will constantly have to live with the “what if” guilt of not doing or saying anything.
2.“People are all gonna label you. But it’s how you overcome those labels. That’s what matters.”
People are going to try and put you down and say you aren’t pretty enough, you aren’t smart enough, or you aren’t enough in general. However, your labels don’t define you unless you let them. If you start to believe in the negative things that people say about you, then they will come true. So don’t. Overcome the labels. Prove the haters wrong. Be all that you can be and more.
3.“Let me tell you about love. It does not knock often. And when it does, you have to let it in.”
This is important because sometimes we are scared to let love in. Not afraid of love itself but afraid of getting hurt. But when love comes, we have to let it in because we might miss out if we don’t, we might miss our chance at love.
4.“Zero is not a size.”
Working in the fashion industry, Brooke Davis strives to show people that zero is not a size. She refuses to use models that are unhealthy or that are too skinny because she believes that anorexia is wrong. She uses models that are thicker to remind people to never feel self-conscious about their size.
5.“I stopped letting boys define me and started believing in myself.”
Never let boys decide what kind of person you are. Believe in yourself and be confident in who you are.
6.“People that are meant to be together always find their way in the end.”
If you are meant to be with someone, then no matter what life throws at you or what obstacles stand in your way of being with that person, you will find your way back to each other. Brooke reminds us that everything in life happens for a reason and that if someone is meant to be in your life, then they will be.
7.“It’s time to play truth or dare… Or maybe just dare ‘cause nobody really tells the truth anymore.”
8.“Why does everybody lie? The bad guys lie to get in your bed and the good guys lie to get in your heart.”
Although 7 and 8 are from different episodes, they go hand in hand. Brooke reminds us that everyone lies. I like these quotes because they remind me not to be too surprised when people lie to me. They remind me not to expect too much from people because people lie to be seem better than others and to take advantage of others.
9.“And once you lose yourself, you have two choices: find the person you used to be or lose that person completely.”
Brooke is saying that if you lose yourself, you can either try and find who you used to be or you can start over, start fresh, and lose that person completely to make yourself someone new. If you feel like you’ve lost yourself you can take that as a chance to redefine yourself or you can try to be who you used to be. Either way, you will still be you.
10.“Know that someone out there believes in you and loves you. And if you haven’t met that person yet, you will. You are special. And you matter. The things that make you different make you unique, and unique is beautiful!”
No matter what makes you stand out from others, you are beautiful and special and important. If you haven’t found someone who makes you feel that way, you will. However, you don’t need someone to tell you how amazing you are. Believe in yourself and go after what you want in life.
11.“Make a wish and place it in your heart. Anything you want, everything you want. Do you have it? Good. Now believe it can come true. You never know where the next miracle is gonna come from, the next smile, the next wish come true. But if you believe that it’s right around the corner, and you open your heart and mind to the possibility of it, to the certainty of it, you just might get the thing you’re wishing for. The world is full of magic. You just have to believe in it. So make your wish. Do you have it? Good. Now believe in it… With all your heart.”
Although this quote was said by various characters, it still is a quote that I try to live by. It reminds me that anything I want in life can happen if I believe in it and make it happen. This goes for anyone. Anything you want in life you can achieve if you set your mind to it and believe.
