Are you searching for a good book to read on a rainy day or at the beach? Here is a list of some awesome books that you must read this summer.

1. “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult

Any story by Jodi Picoult is bound to be a great one. This book follows a school shooting, which is a tragedy that is happening more and more in our world today. Picoult takes readers on an emotional and twisted ride through the different perspectives of the characters in the story, and the reader follows their lives before and after the heartbreaking school shooting. Ultimately, Picoult shows us just what bullying and built up anger can lead to.

2. “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher

This is another heart-wrenching story. The main character Clay Jensen finds a box of tapes from his former classmate Hannah, who recently committed suicide. Each tape contains a reason as to why Hannah ended her life, and unfortunately, Clay was one of them. This book will make you realize how important your words and actions are and how much they can affect someone. You never know what someone is truly going through, despite how they look on the outside. Also, if you want to make the story even more eerie, listen to the audio clips of the thirteen reasons on Youtube.

3. “The Longest Ride” by Nicholas Sparks

This is definitely one of those books that will turn you into a romantic. There are actually two love stories in this book, and they clash in an unexpected way. One story is about the everlasting love of an elderly couple, and the other story is about the cautious and developing love story of a young couple. You won’t want to miss out on two beautiful love stories.

4. “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana De Rosnay

Once again, two stories from different characters are meshed into one. One story is from Sarah, who was rounded up and captured by the Nazi’s in France during World War II. The other story is from Julia, who discovers Sarah’s story after she is asked to write a piece on this dark period in time. Julia uncovers horrifying truths about the past in France, and it leads her to evaluate her own place in the world. This is one of those books that you just cannot put down.

5. “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky

I think that we all can relate to how it feels to be a wallflower. We all have our shy and socially awkward moments. Freshman year of high school was also brutal for most of us, right? Navigating through the world of parties, drugs, relationships, and just life in general is a bumpy journey, and this book depicts the true struggle of growing up.

6. “The Lucky One” by Nicholas Sparks

Seriously, love stories are the best. You will fall in love with this romantic story about how two people were meant to find each other.

7. “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand

This true story is absolutely incredible. Louis Zamperini’s amazing survival as a prisoner in a Japanese war camp during World War II will undoubtedly move you. The power of the will to live is truly unbelievable.

8. “Skin and Bones” by Sherry Shahan

Shahan will open your eyes to the cold reality of eating disorders. Three teenagers deal with their own deadly addictions and rituals, and it is for sure an eye-opener.

9. “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak

This book is written so beautifully, and it will definitely tug at your heart. Books during World War II played an important role in the lives of the civilians, and they had the power to give people a reason to go on.

10. “The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold

This is an unforgettable story about a family’s struggle to deal with the loss of a murdered loved one. This may be difficult material to read, but it is also so real and relevant.

11. “Paper Towns” by John Green

Finally, everybody loves a good mystery. This book has so much suspense and mystery centered around the disappearance of a rebellious teenager, Margo, and the hunt for her that is led by Quentin, who is madly in love with her. The only problem is that she doesn’t want to be found.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
