Ah, binge-watching. The act of sitting and watching a TV show, usually on a website like Netflix or Hulu, from start to finish, in perhaps one sitting. Typically partaken by college students when there is no homework to be done. The summer is a great time to catch up on binge-watching, since there is typically more free time and availability. However, one conflict is figuring out what new shows to watch, or which ones are boring. There are many great things on Netflix, depending on the time or genre!
1. "Gilmore Girls"
A favorite of many females, this classic mother-daughter tale is heartwarming, sarcastic, and caffeinated, three things important to the college woman. However, with long episodes and seven seasons, you may want something shorter...
2. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"
This wonderful new comedy by Tina Fey is perfect! With 13 episodes and two seasons, it is fast-paced and energetic, leading to one (or many) sitting(s) of laughing out loud!
3. "The Office" (UK)
One benefit of Netflix is being able to watch international shows. While the American version of "The Office" is also wonderful, the UK version is equal parts snappy, controversial, and rife with beautiful accents.
4. "Bob's Burgers"
Who doesn't love a good animated comedy? This tale of a dysfunctional family burger joint will make you laugh until your sides split.
5. "Mad Men"
Different from the previous options, this show about advertising agencies in the 1960s is fascinating, and delivers magnificent acting.
6. "Master of None"
Returning to comedies, Aziz Ansari's sitcom about life as a young adult is both hilarious and insightful.
7. "Freaks and Geeks"
Judd Apatow's show about high school outcasts is relatable and delightful, and features many currently famous actors, like James Franco, Jason Segal, and Seth Rogen.
8. "Gossip Girl"
This classic teenage guilty pleasure, following the lives of Manhattan's elite, is always a good pick-me-up!
9. "New in Town" and "The Comeback Kid" by John Mulaney
While not television shows, these two standup specials by Mulaney, a Georgetown alum, are relatable and will leave you wanting so much more!
10. "Wet Hot American Summer" (and First Day of Camp)
Both the 2001 movie and the 2015 television show are classic, tongue-in-cheek comedies, and will make you laugh, gasp, and maybe even shriek at young Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, and Paul Rudd.
11. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
This show depicts sociopathic characters in South Philadelphia, and their wild antics will keep you appalled and glued to hitting the "Next Episode" button.
While most of these shows are comedies, these are all programs, both long and short, dramatic and funny, and are great ways to help pass some summer boredom!
