The 10 Best Things About Whitefish, Montana

Whitefish is a popular tourist town that is popular for the mountain that stands at its base, however, there's more to the story.

After spending most of my life in Whitefish Montana, I have come to realize that there are many great things about this town. It has certainly been noted as one of the best towns in the state, it is most notable for the ski resorts located close by. Although this helps with the local economy, there is a lot more to the town than most people realize.

10. Montana Shirt Company

Located in Whitefish, and sold elsewhere, Montana Shirt Company produces shirts, hats, etc with fun sayings about the beautiful state. "[406]", "Love." ,"Home.", and "Montana is my happy place" are some of the different saying that are on products. You can find their merchandise at montanashirtco.com.

9. Alpine Theater Project

Alpine Theater Project (ATP) is a theater company that brings well known shows to life at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. Their past productions include Chicago, Legally Blonde, and Big Fish (featured below).

8. Markus Foods

Local grocery stores are a rarity nowadays, and that's what makes Markus Foods so special. This store has a popular fine wine and beer selection, an amazing deli and great service! The store is open 365 days a year from 7 a.m to 11 p.m., making it a popular stop for lunch before the lake, dinner after the mountain and especially on the holidays.

7. Hurraw!

This chapstick is in 15 different countries and is based out of Whitefish! There are over 20 different flavors, which can be found in stores all over the town (and world) or online at hurrawbalm.com. The lip balms are premium organic, vegan, and include organic (no GMO) ingredients.

6. Red Caboose Frozen Yogurt + Coffee

The Red Caboose is hands down the BEST coffee shop that Whitefish has to offer. It's locally owned by Kelli and Reed Trontel, and serves Stumptown Coffee Roasters. They have eight rotating yogurt flavors and over 40 toppings! Located on Central Ave. the shop is shaped like an actual red caboose!

5. The Farmers Market

During the summer, the Whitefish Downtown Farmers Market displays different locals who have food and other gifts for sale. The market is open every Tuesday from 5-7:30 p.m. at the end of the gift stores and breweries downtown.

4. Mountain Berry Bowls

This is an amazing food truck that serves acai bowl! Founded by Jared and Lindley Lynch on June 30th, 2015, the business is off to an amazing start. You can find the stand at 20 Baker Ave. (the corner of the VFW parking lot) and at Flathead Lake! It is a treat to many on the warm summer days.


3. Whitefish Lake City Beach

Is it a lake? Is it a beach? Is it both? This end of Whitefish Lake has sand, lifeguard towers, and even a Sweet Peaks stand! There's a dock that you can swim out to and an area for you to take our your boats.

What's better than sweet peaks?! THE ORIGINAL SWEET PEAKS! Founded in 2010, the shop now has five locations and they serve 16 different flavors and they feature

Glacier National Park sits about 40 minutes away from Whitefish, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to visit the park. Famous for Going-to-the-Sun-Road, Logan Pass and Avalanche Lake the park gets publicity from all around the world.
