11 Best Things About Spring

Post-winter never felt so good.

11 Best Things About Spring

Spring may not be everyone's favorite season of the year, but it does have its perks. These are just some of the best things about spring that we can enjoy while it lasts.

1. Flowers

Yellow daffodils, pansies, lilacs, hell, even dandelions are a beautiful sight to see. The first one to poke out of the ground gives you hope. Maybe there is light at the end of the winter.

2. Light Jackets and Sandals

Ugh, I can finally (crossing my fingers) put away the bulky snow boots and trade them in for sandals and sneakers. Good-bye down jacket that reaches below my knees, and hello jean jacket that covers my dress.

3. Bright Colors

No more greys, blacks, and browns plaguing the earth! Peach, turquoise, lavender, marine, coral, honeydew—it's like you suddenly found yourself in the middle of a Sherwin-Williams. Or in the middle of spring!

4. Budding Trees

Maybe not those kinds of trees you may be thinking of, but there always seems to be a moment of recognition where you observe your surroundings, and for the first time, see a rebirth within nature. "Oh my goodness! The trees have buds! They’re coming back to life!" It’s here, people—tell your friends! Tell yo' kids, tell yo' wife 'cause trees are budding everywhere around here!

5. More Outside Activities

Don’t get me wrong, winter brought great excuses to stay inside and watch Netflix all night, but sometimes you just need to get up, stretch your muscles, and go outside. Brushing the dust off the bicycle that’s been hanging in the corner of the garage, breaking in those walking shoes, slathering on the sunscreen, or saddling up the horses. We’re going outside.

6. Fruit

Warmer weather usually indicates it’s time for delicious food you’ve been deprived of all winter long. Watermelon, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries that grew in your backyard are all coming upon us. Brace yourselves for the deliciousness.

7. (Almost) Perfect Weather

Beautiful days somewhere around 70 or 75 degrees mean it’s warm enough to enjoy it and cool enough to not bubble in Satan’s heat waves of the summer. It rains a lot, sure, but at least it’s not snow!

8. Celebrating Earth Day

I always look forward to see what campus or local events I can participate in for this day. Like the annual EarthFest at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds!

9. Open Windows

Getting to leave your windows cracked because there’s a perfect breeze just tickling your fancy some days.

10. No Worries about Mosquitoes or Bugs

The mild weather usually never draws in mosquitoes or scary wasps. Unlike the summer, you won’t be spending your time outside running away from buzzing creatures and smacking yourself to get rid of blood-sucking demons.

11. The End of the Semester

Spring signals a closing to the school year, and there’s nothing better than counting down the days you have left until vacation. Unless you’re graduating, because then you’re probably panicking about life.

Either way, the summer is soon upon us. Stay positive, better days are ahead.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour
StableDiffusion

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
