Prepare to be scared.

Scary movies are arguably the best kind of movie. They are interesting, they can make you really think, and they can scare you while all you do is just watch. Some are better than others, and I have watched enough to be able to pick eleven of the ones definitely worth watching.

1. Saw (2004)

This movie is my personal favorite of all time. The story is super interesting and pretty easy to follow. Another plus side is that there are 8 movies in the franchise and honestly- all of them are pretty good. It’s almost like an escape room kind of story and everyone trapped in the rooms by “Jigsaw” are connected in some way that they have to figure out to survive.

2. The Conjuring (2013)

Honestly, when this movie came out I was almost too scared to see it. It’s a pretty cliche story about a family moving into a new home and being haunted, but it’s unique. There are a lot of parts that will have you on the edge of your seat and some times you may actually jump. All in all, the movie has a good story and is genuinely scary.

3. Annabelle (2014)

This movie is actually a prequel to The Conjuring! It involves the same investigative couple who looks into the hauntings, but this time it involves a doll being haunted rather than a person. Dolls definitely creeped me out for a while after watching this movie.

4. Insidious (2010-2015)

This movie and its two sequels were pretty popular with everyone, but it would be wrong of me not to put them on this list. All of the movies are pretty good- they’re basically about how there’s another dimension where the dead live called “the further.” Some of the scary parts can be predictable but they do have good stories behind them.

5. Sinister (2012)

This movie and its sequel are both very creative. The story is about the “boogeyman” and how there are a bunch of murders occurring that all involve an entire family being killed except for one child. There are super creepy short films within the movie showing how all of the murders were committed and they are really interesting to see.

6. Hush (2016)

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this movie or not when I first watched it but now I can say it is for sure one of the best. It’s about a deaf woman who is trapped in her home trying to defend herself against a masked killer. I think the plot of this movie is really original and super scary.

7. It Follows (2014)

This one’s a little weird. It’s basically about some kind of supernatural STD. Well, not really, but basically “it” follows one person at a time and that’s the only way to pass it on to someone else. Ok so it’s really weird- but it’s totally scary and definitely gets you thinking.

8. Oculus (2013)

I found this movie by accident on Netflix, but it has easily become one of my favorite. The story is really cool: it’s about a haunted mirror called “The Lasser Glass” that can control your thoughts and actions and cannot be destroyed. The movie centers on two siblings who were victims of the mirror's powers when they were younger who are trying to get revenge on it a decade later.

9. Don’t Breathe (2016)

As soon as I saw the trailer for this movie I knew it was going to be good. It’s about a group of people who try to rob the house of a man who is blind, but they soon find out that he is a lot smarter than they anticipated. This makes for a lot of suspense which is always fun.

10. The Visit (2015)

I love this movie because not only is it totally creepy, it’s also really funny. It’s about these two children who go to visit their grandparents that they have never met before for a week. This movie has a really good twist and I think even people who don’t like scary movies could enjoy this one.

11. Unfriended (2014)

So many people have bad things to say about this movie but I think it’s one of the most unique movies out there. The whole thing takes place as if you’re looking on a laptop screen and it’s about these 5 friends on Skype on the night of a girl in their grade’s death. This movie is also pretty funny at times so although the reviews say otherwise, I think everyone should give it a shot.

Remember to always watch scary movies in the dark and with a friend. I also recommend scary movie marathons, especially with these movies. Even someone who doesn't like scary movies is bound to like at least one of these. Do yourself a favor and start watching!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
