Sometimes life takes a sharp curve and everything changes. That's exactly what happened when I lost my best friend.
My mom called me on a Tuesday morning, crying, to tell me that my best friend of seven years had gone on to a better place. Ovarian cancer was the killer. She had fought hard but God needed her more in Heaven than we did here on Earth.
There is much I miss about her but here are 11 simple attributes I miss the most.
1. Her heartwarming smile.
She had the ability to make anyone's day better simply by smiling. With her smile, she lit up a room. With her smile, she made everyone feel important and cared for.
2. Her contagious laugh.
They say laughter is the best medicine and this was definitely true with my best friend's laugh. It was special, unique, and had the power to heal.
3. Her kind heart.
She never knew a stranger and was very welcoming to everyone. She wanted to help anyone and everyone, no matter who they were.
4. Her jovial spirit.
Being around her was always a good time. Whether we were taking a trip to the beach or just watching TV at her house, there was never a dull moment.
5. Her sarcastic attitude.
Boy, could she be sarcastic! If I had a problem going on in my life, she would help and support me but not without making a few sarcastic remarks first. She really was a joker!
6. Her availability.
She was always there for me, no matter what time it was. Late in the night or early in the morning, she was there. For my highest and lowest moments, I could always count on her.
8. Her passion for animals.
She was a talented, champion Equestrian who loved any horse she came in contact with. Her connection with her horse was sacred and beautiful; something that could never be broken.
7. Her strength.
I've never known someone stronger. I wish I had just an ounce of the strength her sweet soul possessed. Who spends countless days filled with worry, pain, and questions while also living each and every day to the fullest? I'll tell you who. My best friend who, in my book, will always be a strong survivor.
9. Her desire to change the world.
There was never an obstacle too big when it came to changing the lives of others. She raised a great amount of money for ovarian cancer patients and started a fund with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) for patients with Gynecological Cancer. The fund is called the Lighthouse Fund - Patients with Gynecological Cancer and anyone can go online to MUSC and donate.
10. Her devotion to Christ.
Christ played a vital role in her life and there was never a time when her faith wavered. Despite all that she went through, she always believed that God had a purpose for and she took advantage of that as much as she could.
11. Her unconditional friendship.
No matter how many times I messed up and made the wrong decision, she was always my friend. I could tell her anything and she never judged me. We laughed together, cried together, fought with each other, pushed each other to full potential, and made many memories. I will forever be grateful for her friendship.
Not a day goes by that I don't miss my best friend. Not a day goes by, though, that I don't feel her presence. I feel her with me everyday and I know she will always be here.
