The beginning of a new year means the excitement for movies that are coming out during that year. 2017 looks like it will be a big year for the movie industry, so here are 12 movies that many people are looking forward to this year, in the order in which they are being released in theaters.
1. Lego Batman (February 10, 2017)
With the success of the Lego Movie and the character of Lego Batman, it comes as no surprise that this movie was made. The movie will follow Lego Batman in not only having to deal with the criminals of Gotham City, but also with raising Robin, the boy he adopted.
2. Beauty and the Beast (March 17, 2017)
With the success of Disney's live-action Cinderella in 2015, it is not surprising that the people at Disney have decided to make more live-action remakes of their popular classic movies. Starring Emma Watson as Belle, this movie tells the story of how a terrifying beast and a young woman fall in love.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5, 2017)
After the success of the first movie, it was not surprising at all that a second movie would be made. This movie follows the main characters as they try to find out who Peter Quill's father is, and while doing so, run into some pretty crazy creatures.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man Tell No Tales (May 26, 2017)
It has been 10 years since we last saw Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow on the big screen. This time we will be watching him as he tries to search for the the trident of Poseidon while having to deal with one of his old enemies, Captain Salazar. A random fact about the movie is that Orlando Bloom will be back as Will Turner!
5. Baywatch (May 26, 2017)
A lot of people were surprised when they first found out that this was going to be a movie. Starring Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, this movie follows the story of two prospective lifeguards who are trying to get a permanent job at a beach where mysterious things seems to be happening.
6. Wonder Woman (June, 2, 2017)
We were first introduced to the Amazon princess in Batman Vs Superman, which came out last year. This stand-alone Wonder Woman film follows Wonder Woman as she leaves her island home in order to explore the world, and while doing so, becomes a hero.
7. Despicable Me 3 (June 30,2017)
With how successful the first two movies were it is not surprising that a third one was made. This time Gru, his minions, his daughters and Lucy must stop Balthazar Bratt, who has a plan for world domination.
8. Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7, 2017)
After the popularity of Tom Holland's rendition of Spider-man in Captain America Civil War people have been waiting for this movie to come out. This film follows Peter Parker as he tries to deal with both the struggles of high school, and trying to save the world while keeping his superhero identity a secret.
9. Thor: Ragnarok (November 3, 2017)
Even though Captain America: Civil War was an amazing movie, there were two characters that were left out. Thankfully this movie will show us what Thor and the Hulk were doing while the other Avengers were forming into two teams and fighting each other.
10. Justice League (November 17, 2017)
With the success of Marvel's Captain America Civil War, which included a bunch of different superheros, it seems like DC wants to try the same thing. Filled with all of your favorite DC superheros this movie is sure to be popular in theaters. Not much information has been released about it right now.
11. Star Wars Episode 8 (December 15, 2017)
This movie has been called the most anticipated movie of 2017 because of how successful episode 7 was. Everyone wants to know what will happen now that Rey found Luke Skywalker, and what will happen to Princess Leia's role in the film since Carrie Fisher recently passed away. There have been no trailers released yet since the film does not come out until December.
12. Pitch Perfect 3 (December 22, 2017)
Many people did not expect a third movie to be made for this franchise because of the fact that many of the original characters graduated from college at the end of the second movie. Since the movie does not come out until December there is not much information regarding the movie's plot, but Anna Kendrick, who plays Beca and Rebel Wilson, who plays Fat Amy, have both been confirmed to be in it.
