11 Annoying Things People Do While Driving

Everyone cannot wait until their 17th birthday (at least in Jersey) because of one reason: getting their license. Having a license gives you the freedom to drive wherever you want and when you want (unless you have probationary license still). After driving for a while, you learn a lot about other drivers and how other people drive. It can be great… or the worst thing you have ever experienced in your life. Here’s 11 annoying things people do while drive:

1. When it snows and people don’t dust off their cars.

Not only is that illegal in some states, but completely rude. All you see is snow flying off the top of the car and the next thing you know, it smacks straight onto your windshield. It literally takes five minutes to clean off your car. Please do it.

2. When they keep their high beams on at night.

Sometimes, it is a dark road with no lights and it is hard to see. I get that. However, if you see another car driving, please turn off your high beams. You are practically blinding the other driver and their judgement may be off because of it and may end up hitting you. High Beams are dangerous and should only be on when needed.

3. When people take up two parking spaces.

If you mess up while parking, please adjust yourself. It takes a matter of thirty seconds to one minute. Taking up two spaces is just rude. Don’t be too surprised when someone comes and parks right next to you, just to annoy you. Be aware of the size of the spots. And don’t take up more than one spot because you have a fancy car. If you’re that concerned, park further away than everyone else.

4. When people tailgate.

If I can not see your headlights behind me anymore, you are too close. Ever hear of the one car lengths distance for every ten miles per hour? Yeah, please follow that. All it takes is for one break check for you to come crashing into my car. If someone is going to slow for your liking, just go around them, as long as it is legal. Don’t be a jerk and be so close behind them that you’re basically sitting in their backseat because one day, you just might end up there.

5. When people merge or come into your lane without looking.

It’s not like I am next to you or anything… Please look when you’re changing lanes. Make sure the lane is clear before moving over. Pay attention to the road.

6. When people drive 10 mph under the speed limit.

If you are going to drive under the limit, please stay in the right lane if there is one. Unless the weather conditions outside are very bad outside, do everyone a favor, and at least drive the limit, or move over!

7. When you let someone go and they don’t wave thank you.

Oh, you’re welcome for letting you go. Next time, I’ll just let you sit there. How hard is it to move your hand and say thank you. Common courtesy.

8. When people use their cell phones.

It is illegal to talk or be on your phone while driving a car. It distracts the driver from paying attention to the road and can cause a serious accident. All it takes is for someone to look away from the road and at their phone for two seconds for an accident to occur. The text, tweet, or call can wait. Put the phone DOWN.

9. When people do not stop for pedestrians or school buses.

If someone is in a crosswalk, you stop and let them cross. It is the law. It is understandable if they are jaywalking, because it is illegal for them to do that as well. Also, if a bus puts on its red lights indicating that they are going to stop to drop off students or pick them up, you must stop.

10. When people leave their signal light on.

After signaling to turn, or change lanes, please turn your signal light off to indicate you are done with the action you did. How do people forget to turn their signal off if it is constantly making a noise in their car?

11. Or when people don’t put on their signal light at all.

How is anyone supposed to know what the car is going to do without their signal light? If you’re signal lights don’t work, use the hand signals like you were taught to do in driver’s education. Please turn on your blinker when switching lanes or turning; it’s the best way to avoid an accident. Plus, it really just makes everyone annoyed when you don't use it.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. You earn your license, you aren’t just handed it. Follow the rules of the road and drive safely.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
