11 Activities To Do Over The Summer Instead Of Watching Netflix

At this point in the summer, the newness has worn off and boredom begins to set in. Instead of binge watching Netflix until school starts again, it is possible to enjoy this summer. So, get off the couch (or out of bed) and start having some fun. Go play catch, ride a bike, or try your hand out at a few of the activities listed below.

1. Go to the pool.

If your neighborhood has a pool, this is an easy summer activity with minimal extra cost. However, if you live in a neighborhood without a pool, then look to your local YMCA or community center.

2. Go to the park.

I know this is a novel concept but there are these things called parks and you can go to them and enjoy the outdoors. Most city websites will have information about their local park areas. Look them up online and find one to enjoy.

3. Go floating.

Some people like to spend time on the river, and floating is one of the most enjoyable ways to do so. If you really want to spend some time in nature, then float trips are the way to go.

4. Go to the movies.

Need a break from the heat? A summer blockbuster is a great way to have some fun and cool down from the blistering heat. Plus, there are some really good movies expected to be released this summer.

5. Go camping.

When living with indoor plumbing and central air conditioning gets to be too much, go live in the woods for a few days. If the woods seem to be too much, then the backyard works just as well.

6. Go to a waterpark.

When the weather gets hot, the waterpark is not. Actually, it's still the same temperature but the water helps you cool off.

7. Go to an amusement park.

If thrill seeker is more of your style, then your local amusement park is for you. On hotter days, try going in the evening when it is cooler and passes are cheaper.

8. Go to the gym.

Desperate for something to do? Live in a small town with very little options for fun? Spending some extra time at the gym will blow off time, release a rush of endorphins, and help you stay healthy. It’s a win-win.

9. Go to the library.

More of the bookish type? Desperate to get lost in a good book? Then the library is the place for you. There are bound to be summer activities that the library hosts in order to provide some extra enjoyment.

10. Go see a concert.

If music is your thing, then try seeing a concert. See a local band or splurge on a band's tour.

11. Take a hike.

A great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise at the same time. Look into popular hiking spots near you and then throw on some shoes and enjoy the view.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
