11 Activities To Help Post-Election Feels

I and many others felt a lot of heartbreak after the results of this election. Many of us feel scared due to the uncertain future and dark perspectives we have heard about our new President. I think it is important to say that these are things to do to hide in for the next four years. Instead, I think that people should take the time to take care of themselves mentally for a time before they decide to take action and move on. Thus, this list!

1. Volunteer at a Dog Shelter

We do not deserve the pureness of dogs, yet we have their loyalty indefinitely. Helping them out when they are most in need would be beneficial for their condition and for yours as well. In addition, the ability to help others when you don’t feel that you have the power to make your life better will increase your level of calm.

2. Bake heart cookies for your friends and family

One of the ways to people’s heart is through their stomach. There are two ways that this activity can make you feel better. This can help you make others feel better by giving them a gift and seeing the immediate rewards of their happiness. Also, it gets you mind focuses on a productive task.

3. Watch a comedy special

Netflix and Youtube are gold mines when it comes to good comedy skits from years and years ago. I really like watching them with a friend, because their laughter contributes to the jokes hilarity. They keep you socially aware but teaches you how to laugh and understand different problems in our communities.

4. Eat your favorite Ice Cream

There is something about ice cream that brings back the feeling of innocence. Having your favorite kind of frozen delight not only affirms your ability to choose what you want but brings a sugar high with it. And on hot days it will only taste better.

5. Do some Yoga

Yoga can really help every inch of your body relax. But taking your time with different poses, listening to soothing music, and keeping your balance strong will help you feel more connected to yourself when you are seriously concerned with different things in your life.

6. Buy holiday decorations

Since the holidays are coming very soon, this is a perfectly timed tip. Buying lights and shiny things should improve the mood in your heart by bringing in more light into your living spaces. Also, if the holidays have been good for you in your childhood, it will remind you of simpler days.

7. Do a sunset or sunrise Hike

Completing either one of these light-changing hikes always provides a number of experiences. First, you feel accomplishment because you finish a difficult task. Second, it is an opportunity to relax and listen to music. And finally, anytime I am personally next to nature or in a beautiful nature space, it makes me feel refreshed and calm.

8. Invent a new recipe

Creating something new will be a craft that will take you through this hard time, but also something constructive out of that time. I like learning something new to cook is fun because you can continue improving it with time as well.

9. Buy a new outfit

There is something about wearing a brand new outfit that improves your mood. Something about feeling fresh and clean makes your confidence higher. And it proves to yourself that you are still in control of what you present yourself to the world.

10. Watch some slam poetry

The emotional swell that I feel every time I hear slam poetry is unlike any other. I love the way that I am able to connect to people through spoken word because their emotions are stronger expressed.

11. Burn some good smelling candles

The nice thing about candles is that they both bring a new refreshing scent into the room but also bring a soft, calming light. The more candles that you light, not only does the room become softer, it also becomes a calming space. Using lavender scents especially is helpful with this.

Sending you all lots of love

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
