With Valentine's Day around the corner, most people are thinking of what to get their 'Special Someone'. Whether it be your significant other, best friend, boss, or family member, there is someone that is special to everyone. Dinner, flowers, chocolates, and teddy bears are sweet- but why not create something unique? Here are 10 DIY (do it yourself) gifts that you can create for the person who is special to you:

1. Candy Poster

Your sweetheart have a sweet tooth? Head on over to Pinterest for ideas of how to use your Valentine's favorite candy and make it into a punny poster. To make this DIY candy poster all you'll need is some creativity, a poster board, and candy. Using the candy as a rhyme/poem, you can make a sweet little treat for your special someone.

2. Photo Gift

Not sure what to do with all those photos of you and your Roomie? Go online to sites like Shutterfly, and upload some of your favorite photos. You can make mugs, shirts, blankets, wall hangings, magnets- the list goes on and on. Even places like Wal-Mart and Rite-Aid offer photo services with personalized photo gifts.

3. Personalized Gift

If you're looking for a way to help your Dad find something for Mom this Valentine's Day, suggest a personalized gift. Monogrammed cookware, kitchen decor (such as this serving tray), aprons, cutting boards, or even mugs can be ordered and created almost anywhere online. You can choose from a variety of colors, prints, fonts, and items.

4. Coupon Book

Take a spin on this elementary school classic with a personalized coupon book for a friend or co-worker. Maybe your friend is a single-parent who could you a few nights to themselves grocery shopping without the kiddos; or maybe your boss needs some help organizing the office. Take the time to make a coupon book using construction paper, ribbon, and a printer. You can make scratch-off coupons using markers with nail-polish over top of the writing, or rip-out coupons.

5. Gift Basket

Head on over to Dollar Tree to make one of these fun gifts! Gather some of your friend or signficant other's favorite things and make them a basket full of goodies they'll enoy! Food, candy, movies, games, crafts, adult coloring books, fuzzy socks- the list is endless. You can even think outside the box and come up with your own basket idea, such as a decorative collapsible bin.

6. Booze Bouquet

This gift is fun for anyone (that's of age, of course). Head on over to the liquor store to purhcase some mini-bottles, then make a stop at the Dollar Tree. Purchasing a small basket, make some fillers such as their favorite candy, some decorative touches, and long skewers or craft sticks will help you to create this bouquet. Why buy flowers that will just die when you can create a unique gift in their place?

7. Dinner at Home

Trying to find a way to watch your siblings while Mom and Dad have some alone time? Not in the mood to dress up and go out? Make a favorite meal or a new recipe while enjoying dinner at home- no reservation required! If you're looking to set the mood, try some candles. If not, opt to hang out on the couch while watching a new movie you both want to see.

8. Fondue

This one is a personal favorite! Single girls night in or romantic at home date night? Fondue is fun for everyone! Purchase some dippers such as strawberries, pound cake, rice-krispie treats or try some cheese fondue dippers like meat, bread, and veggies. Fondue can be an inexpensive and filling alternative to the Melting Pot.

9. Wall Canvas

A canvas can be turned into a million different things! Purchase some fabric and hot glue it, grab a pack of cans and a blow dryer, or purchase stickers and stick them on- the possiblities are up to you. You can also opt for a variety of all of these suggestions, and add photos as well!

10. Build-a-Bear

Looking to make something for a little one or for your long distance love? Head on over to Build-a-Bear Workshop and make a cuddly little creation. You can also go online and purchase a specialty animal or outfit that will be loved for time to come!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
