Holiday season is amongus! I'm ecstatic. However, not for the reasons you may think. While everyone is out, scurrying for groceries and decorations, the main thing on my mind is movies. The only groceries I’m concerned with are wine and popcorn, and the only decoration I need is a fleece throw to cover me. All I want to do is sit, and be sentimental, while watching my favorite holiday films. That’s ALL I want to do. For those of you that would like to join me on the couch, here’s a holiday film list.
1. "The Preacher's Wife" (1996)
2. "Soulfood" (1997)
3. "Holiday Heart" (2000)
4. "A Diva's Christmas Carol" (2000)
5. "Santa Baby" (2001)
6. "The Perfect Holiday" (2007)
7. "This Christmas" (2007)
8. "The Best Man Holiday" (2013)
9. "Black Nativity" (2013)
10. "Annie" (2014)
Honorable mentions:
1. "Fat Albert's Christmas Special" (1977)
2. "Friday After Next" (2002)
3. "The Last Holiday" (2006)
4. "Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas (2013)
5. "Almost Christmas" (2016)
These movies take on the complexities of various Black family structures and friendships, all while giving you holiday feels. You'll laugh. You'll cry. Most of all, you'll relate. It's best to share the moments with family and friends. Because, despite it all, they're really what make a holiday, a holiday.
