Let me start this out by saying that no matter how many followers, friends, likes, or retweets you get; you are beautiful. Social media has taken over. Self-esteem has gone down because of it, and self-esteem has gone up because of it. Cyber bullying is a thing. People say things through social media that they would never say in person. People are now touring the country because they are “Instagram famous” or got a million revines.
Guess what, friends.
This doesn’t matter. Social media does not decide who you are. And you, my love, are a beautiful child of God. Just because the selfie you posted didn’t get 200 likes, doesn’t mean you are not beautiful. You are not any less beautiful that the girl that makes the popular page every time she posts a picture.
As a teenage girl, I get it. We have all been there, looking at our phone, scrolling through Instagram and stopping to stare at the girl with the perfect hair, whitest teeth, gorgeous smile and toned body. Yeah, it gives you that “why can’t I look like her” thought.
I am going to let you in on a secret. You look like you because God made you to be – that’s right – you. You are different, you are unique, you don’t need the perfect smile or hair or body. If nobody has ever told you that you are beautiful, I am, because you are, and your smile and hair and body are all perfect.
You are a gorgeous human being. You are so good at your passion. You possess qualities that other people to do not. Your laugh is different that everyone else’s. Your hair is perfect, even when you wake up. You are brilliant. You are worth so much, that God sent His ONE AND ONLY SON to die for you. That is how beautiful you are.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
-1 Peter 3:3-4
Reread that, really quick.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.”
“Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.“
YOUR BEAUTY AND WORTH IS NOT BASED UPON YOUR RETWEETS, LIKES, OR FOLLOWERS, I PINKY PROMISE.
The face that you cover in makeup is absolutely stunning without the makeup, and stomach that you think is “fat,” is absolutely not. Society has set an image of a perfect human into our brains, and when we look in the mirror and see that we aren’t that exact image, we are disappointed in ourselves. Our beauty is not found in looks, nobody’s is. Our beauty is in our heart. Our Jesus loving souls. Our beauty is found in our love and trust and faith. Our beauty is on the inside, but your outside is absolutely phenomenal.
You do not have a completely flat stomach, no matter how healthy you eat and how many hours you spend in the gym, because you were not built like that. Your hair doesn’t stay straight throughout the entire day because it wasn’t meant to. You didn’t get the biggest boobs in the whole world, who cares.
You are you. Look in the mirror (or selfie cam) right now, and do not pick out a single flaw or have any negative thoughts. Just smile.
That beautiful human that you just looked at? That’s you. That is who God, the maker of the universe, made you to be. There are no flaws, not even that freckle or zit. Having a positive self image will change you, and there are so many others that think you are stunning. Believe them.
Everything that God makes is beautiful, even His word says that in Ecclesiastes 3:11. “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” And you are not excluded from that “everything.”
Post the selfie. Share it on every social media site you have. Love your body. It’s yours and you get to keep it forever. Stop the negative self image, it isn’t worth it and not loving yourself means not loving the craftsmanship of The Lord. If someone makes you feel ugly or treats you like you are anything less than beautiful, unfollow or unfriend them. Do not let this new social media takeover, takeover you. Love yourself, beautiful.
Nothing makes a woman (or man) more beautiful than the belief in knowing she (or he) is beautiful.-Sophia Loren
God loves you so, so, so much, and I would so much rather have His one, everlasting love than any amount of retweets or likes.
Your beauty and worth in the eyes of God is never changing, and he thinks you are to die for.
