These worship songs I'm about to share with you are more than just fun tunes that I jam to in the shower. These are songs that have spoken truth into the places of my heart where I felt hopelessness. When I sing or hear these songs, the atmosphere around me changes, and my circumstances become smaller while my God becomes so much bigger. My hope for you is that you will be undone by the love of Jesus by listening to these songs. So without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite worship songs. (These aren't in any particular order)
1. How He Loves— David Crowder Band
Whenever I need to be reminded of the truth that God truly loves me, I listen to this song. My heart always becomes undone when I realize how much He loves me, and this song displays God's heart so beautifully.
P.S.— "Unforeseen Kiss" is WAY better than "Sloppy Wet Kiss" (for all of you John Mark McMillan fans).
2. Lean Back— Dion Davis
Man, oh, MAN. This song makes me sob.
"Now I can see, your love is better than all the others that I've seen."
This declaration of just how much God loves us is such a banner over my life. This song talks about leaning into the arms of our loving Father and breathing in His goodness that he pours over us.
3. Desert Song— Hillsong Worship
My favorite line of this song is, "All of my life, in every season, you are still God. I have a reason to sing, I have a reason to worship."
These lyrics have been a powerful reminder in my life in so many different seasons. No matter what is happening around me, God is still good and still worthy to be worshiped.
4. We Are Yours— Desperation Band
I remember crying out to Jesus with everything in me while singing this song:
"Jesus, we are yours, we are yours."
Such simple lyrics can have such a huge impact. This truth that we belong to Jesus sets my heart on fire and gives me joy like nothing else.
5. No Longer Slaves— Jonathan David & Melissa Helser
This song. The first time I heard this song, I was completely in shock that there was a song that spoke such truth and identity into my life at that moment. I've never felt more seen and known by God in my entire life. The lyrics "I am no longer a slave to fear, I am a Child of God" have become the anthem of my life. If you struggle with your Identity, take a listen to this song and soak in every word.
6. I Am Free— Desperation Band
This song is a bit on the older side! It's very upbeat and carries so much joy. This song is about finding freedom in following Jesus. There is something that is so powerful when we declare out loud that we are free from the bondage of sin. When we declare these words, the enemy backs down.
7. Out of Hiding— Steffany Gretzinger
This song has such beautiful words that speak the true character of who God is. The first line of this song is "Come out of hiding, you're safe here with me." Every word of this song shows the love in Jesus's heart for His children. It's one of those songs that is best listened to when you close your eyes and quiet the noise in your head. The instrumentals in this song are also incredibly beautiful.
8. Catch the Wind—Jonathan & Melissa Helser
"I am strong and full of life. I am steadfast, no compromise. I lift my sails to the sky, I'm going to catch the wind."
This song is about how God reigns over our disappointments, and he teaches us to dance upon them, even when it's hard.
9. Even When It Hurts—Hillsong UNITED
This song has some raw lyrics. The writers of this song were not afraid to voice what is true about life, and they did such a good job of it. This is a description of the song written by the members of Hillsong United:
"Even When it Hurts is a Praise Song—not exactly in the new-traditional happy-clappy-Sunday-morning sense—no, this is the kind written to sound its loudest in the cold-lonely-silence of the darkest night, or the heart-drenched-desperation of the heaviest of tears. It's a song that finds it's voice in the moments and seasons where to all common sense and logic, to sing, and be thankful for anything at all, let alone sing a song of praise to God, makes no sense at all—when the fight seems lost, and all strength gone with it—when it's hard to even find the words ... this is that kind of praise song."
This last song brings my list to an end. If you find yourself listening to these songs, I assure you something will happen in the atmosphere around you. My hope for you is that this is more than just a list. I hope you find yourself rehearsing the truth of all of these songs in your life—no matter who you are.
