10 Websites I Love and You Should Too

Have you ever gotten tired of scrolling through your Facebook feed three times in a row, refreshing your instagram robotically, or blindly reblogging every post you see on tumblr? Yeah, me too. But it's important to switch it up a bit, keep things fresh. So here are some new websites that you should definitely check out.

1. Duolingo

"The best way to learn a new language."

It's combining gaming and learning a new language. Oh and it's free. There's an app for it and the online experience is very polished and seamless. It's extremely well-made and is oriented towards providing people with a fun experience while learning a new language.

2. Fiverr

"Freelance services for the lean entrepreneur"

I've used Fiverr two times so far and I got a fantastic product. Both experiences involved graphic design (making logos) but Fiverr offers so much more from voice overs to mobile app development. The gist of it is that you're paying someone, usually a non-profession or hobbyist, to provide you with a service at a very low cost.

3. Mint

"We help you effortlessly manage your finances in one place"

I use Mint to budget and to stay up-to-date on my financial situation. It's very helpful to get an overview of where you are financially in order to adjust your behavior and plan for the future. Mint also tracks purchases so that's very helpful to see where your money has disappeared into.

4. The WireCutter and The SweetHome

"Lists of the best gadgets and gear for people who quickly want to know what to get"

These two blogs probably provide some of the most comprehensive reviews on products that I've ever seen. They have a very robust methodology which includes comparing all the top products, utilizing expert testimony and scientific testing to see which ones are the best.

5. Massdrop

"Massdrop allows everyone to pool their buying power and order a large amount of an item at a discounted price"

It's essentially group-ordering with strangers on the internet in order to get a certain products at a discounted price. It's really a fantastic service, especially if you have niche interests. The most popular "drops" are usually Audio items, Every Day Carry stuff, Tech and Men's apparel.

6. KickStarter

"Kickstarter helps artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, and other creators find the resources and support they need to make their ideas a reality"

I think I've funded about 10 projects thus far and my experience has been fantastic. All the items I've backed have been unique and interesting ranging from the Ten's Filter Glasses to EAROS. There's also the component of feeling good having known that you help launch someone's entrepreneurial venture.

7. Code Academy

"Learn to code interactively, for free"

I've been using Code Academy to learn ReactJS for my internship and i've learned a lot. The best thing about Code Academy is that it's the leading website that teaches people how to code and it's top-notch for a reason. It's 100% interactive, like DuoLingo, so it's very hard to actually get lost and if you do get lost, it's very easy to get help.

8. Brain Pickings

"An inventory of the meaningful life"

This has got to be one of my favorite blogs. The blog is run by Maria Popova and she writes articles on novels, authors, and poems. Every blog post contains an interesting idea that you've probably never heard before and it allows you to gain some insight on some of the profound thoughts that have never become mainstream in the modern world. Fixed vs Growth and Nietzsche on Life are two of my favorite posts.

9. College Info Geek

"Want to learn how to study more effectively, land your dream job, or pay off your student loans faster?"

Thomas Frank runs a blog and YouTube channel called College Info Geek and produces some fantastic content on self-improvement topics like productivity, financial freedom, lifestyle management.

10. Udemy

"Udemy is a global marketplace for learning and teaching online where students are mastering new skills and achieving their goals by learning from an extensive library of over 45,000 courses taught by expert instructors"

Udemy offers educational courses at a price. However, courses are extremely in-depth, comprehensive, and specific as opposed to their free counterparts which lack these three qualities. You can learn a vast amount of amazing skills on Udemy all from the comfort of your home.

See! There's a whole world of new websites and apps out there! Give them a look and enjoy a completely new web experience.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
