Who knew growing up could be so disappointing?

When you're young it's easy to create an idealistic world. It's almost like your living in a young, magical bubble. Everyone older than you, even if by a few years, is infinitely wiser and so much cooler. You looked up to these "grown ups" for so long until one day you suddenly became one...only not the kind you thought you'd be. With such high expectations as a youngin', it only makes sense that we've all let our younger selves down a incredible amount.

1. The DARE Program didn't work

It's safe to say that we've all let down the officers that led the good 'ol DARE program, even if you graduated the program with flying colors. A wise sociology professor once asked me, "What came out of the DARE program?" and he told me it was "Drug users." Fair.

2. You're not super wise OR super cool

Dreams crushed.

3. You don't want to consider yourself a grownup yet

Remember when you thought being a grown up was the greatest thing that could ever happen to you? Hahaha.

4. You're probably not married with three kids and living in a mansion

MASH never really came through with its promises.

5. Your bank account dips between 50 cents and 5 dollars

Financially secure? Good one. Why didn't anyone tell you being a grown up meant paying never-ending bills?

6. You're aren't a pop star, actress, dancer or a professional athlete

No one had the heart to tell you back then that you wouldn't actually fulfill your dreams, and now it's time to realize that you really won't.

7. You're not the coolest kid in school (or ever)

Remember when you thought you would have tons of friends, always be doing something and go out all the time? Haha, funny.

8. Nick Jonas isn't your boyfriend

We all know he was the heart-throb of the Jonas Brothers and we're all disappointed we didn't end up with him.

9. You don't have a personal chef, maid or butler

Being an adult means actually doing your own cooking, cleaning and busy work, and man have you really let your younger self down with that reality.

10. You don't own a pony...yet

All those years you spent putting ponies on your Christmas list...and guess who still doesn't have one. Younger you would be so disappointed.

As you can see, you've got a lot of making up to yourself to do. Better get started on that before a few years pass and you're STILL not a wise and cool pop star living in a mansion with your husband Nick Jonas and your very own pony butler.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
