10 Ways to Turn Your Bad Day Around

Bad days can happen often, there is no denying that. However, how you turn that bad day around is what can absolutely conquer that feeling. Often when we are in a rut, or just not feeling ourselves as some people may say (Yonce I see you) we want to stay in that rut. Or at least for that day. We recognize that we are in a bad mood and stubbornly want to remain in that bad mood because somewhere deep inside we think we deserve to feel that way. Well folks, I am here to tell you it is time to turn your bad days around. Stop sulking in your unnecessary sadness about things that you won't remember 2 days from now and pick yourself up. What's that? You don't know how? Wow isn't that something!? I'll tell you how.

1. GO WORKOUT- I swear there is nothing to cure a bad mood/bad day quite like a good workout. Although it may be the very last thing you see yourself doing, it will make the BIGGEST difference in your mood. Go for a run, go sweat your face off and let go of all of that bad energy because you know what they say... you never regret a workout.

2. GIVE YOURSELF YOU TIME- Sometimes spending time with yourself is the best thing you can do. Whether this means watching 18 episodes of The Office in one sitting and laughing out loud then so be it. Or maybe it means ordering in and doing a face mask. Either way, spending time with yourself can make all the difference. Maybe you were lacking that before ay?

3. DO THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE AND BE WITH YOUR FRIENDS- Lets contradict ourselves shall we? Maybe you've been spending too much time by yourself and forgot that socializing can soothe the soul. Call up some friends, get together, maybe grab a bottle of wine and just have a girls night. Being around your closest friends has a way of making your big problems not so big any longer.

4. BLAST SOME MUSIC AND CLEAN YOUR ROOM- This may sound so incredibly strange. But sometimes we need to look around at our surroundings and realize that if our room and atmosphere is in shambles, that could be a reason why our life feels like its in shambles. The amount of times I have cleaned and organized my room and instantly felt better about life is insane. If you have never tried it, DO IT. Just don't forget the blasting music part (it makes it less painless).

5. BREAK DOWN THE PROBLEMS- Chances are if you are in a bad mood, there is a reason why (or maybe not). Not to say these problems aren't valid.. but sometimes perspective is all you need. Write down these problems on a piece of paper. Does it say things like "the store didn't have the shoes I wanted in my size" or "I ate too many pieces of bread today I probably gained 35 pounds" If so, you need to put things into perspective. Are these things do or die? No. Is tomorrow a new day to make smarter eating decisions and finding a different store with different shoes? Yes.

6. TALK ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS- If you find yourself constantly in a bad mood, maybe talking it out is necessary. This can be to your parents, a best friend, a brother what have you. I think we underestimate how therapeutic talking about what's going on in our head really is. Why keep that stuff bottled up when you most likely have someone a phone call away willing and ready to listen.

7. SPEND TIME DOING WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY- Set aside some time to do the things that free your mind the most. Reading, writing, shopping, cooking, getting your nails done. These things may seem like everyday activities and nothing special, but spending time doing all of these things when you aren't feeling like yourself can be a bigger help than you think.

8. RETAIL THERAPY- I don't care what anyone says, retail therapy is real. I take part in this activity even when I'm not in a bad mood. There is something about strolling around Target, or a mall and window shopping or in my case purchasing that is so good for the soul. Or if you don't feel like getting out of bed, online shopping is always a thing.

9. GO OUTSIDE- I think when we find ourselves in a bad mood, we associate that with staying in bed all day. Why is that? Maybe because we secretly know that going outside would instantly lift our mood. Being in the sun and taking in the fresh air is such an underrated mood changer. Grab a drink, snack and your favorite pastime and just sit outside.

10. GO ON AN ADVENTURE- Get out of the house and do something. Go for a long drive with zero destination, go to the beach or even just to one of your favorite local spots. Getting out and doing something out of the ordinary can be a rush of exhilaration you didn't know you needed.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
