Are you doing everything that you can to stay safe? Staying safe on a college campus is very important as you may know that things happen all the time! It's very important to know how to keep you and your friends safe! Here are a couple of tips that will definitely help:

TIP #1 : Know where your campus police office is located

Every university has a campus police station. Make the most out of it by knowing their office hours, location, and services. Most campuses should have blue light emergency phone stations and knowing where they are should be a priority!

TIP #2 : Always walk with a friend or two

Walking with a friend is more comforting than walking alone. You should never walk alone (especially at night), even if you just need to go to your car. Ask a friend to walk with you or watch you as you walk! It never hurts to ask for assistance.

TIP #3 : Never go out alone at night

Trust me, the party scene is not as fun as it looks. If you do want to go out, take at least one friend with you. Never go to a place that you've never been to alone!.Your safety is way more important than the social event!

TIP #4 : Always lock your car

It's a good idea to lock your car as soon as you get in and when you exit! Never leave anything valuable out in sight. Car jackers usually like to take what they can see from your car window!

TIP #5 : Always know where you're going

Getting lost can be very frustrating and time consuming. Knowing where you're going will get you where you need to go a lot faster. The faster you get to where you're going the safer you will be!

TIP #6 : Know how to defend yourself

Consider carrying some pepper spray or enrolling in a self defense class. It's not a bad idea to know how to defend yourself in case you come into a situation where you have to!

TIP #7 : Keep all doors locked

Every time you enter and exit your dorm/apartment it needs to be locked! It is also a good idea to keep all of your valuable items locked up at all times. Don't brag about what you have because people steal things all the time.

TIP #8 : Let someone know where you're going

If you're coming home or going out, let someone know where you plan to be and when. It's always a good idea to have someone know where you're going so they can expect you, and know if something is wrong.

TIP #9 : Be aware of your surroundings

Know what is going on around you. Being aware of your surroundings will keep you out of trouble. If you notice something that does not seem right , leave immediately and call for help! It is better to be safe than sorry.

TIP #10 : Give yourself a curfew

It's all about self discipline! Don't forget what you're going to school for (TO LEARN). It is okay to go out but don't stay out all night into the wee hours of the morning. A lot of assaults and burglaries happen at those hours.

Take these tips seriously. You should start thinking about what you may need to change in order to stay safe! College is fun but it can also be dangerous. Find out what works for you and get your friends involved in campus safety awareness!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
