Thanksgiving break is coming at the perfect time for all college students. We are at the point in the semester where finish assignments takes ten hours instead of twenty minutes, going to class seems like mission impossible, and no matter how much sleep we get, we are still tired. Always tired is a college student's motto. Thanksgiving break gives us time to mentally relax and physically recover and below are ten ways that we can do just that.
1. Netflix. Find a TV series and start watching it and do not stop. Obviously if an unentertaining show comes up, stop, but start another. Start a show that is impossible to stop watching. This will be mentally relaxing because the only thing to think about is the show and nothing else, as you shouldn't.
2. Food. Lots and lots of food. It is Thanksgiving and it is a time where we gather around a big roasted bird and eat it. So pass the mashed potatoes and keep passing because there is nothing quite like Thanksgiving food. It is called comfort food for a reason.
3. Sleep. After consuming endless comfort food, the sleepiness will set in, but do not, under any circumstances resist the urge to grab a blanket and curl up on the couch and sleep for hours. Sleep is the way that our bodies recharge and renew, so don't deprive the body of the simple act it needs.
4. Football. While laying on the couch, the only thing on TV will most likely be football. And not just any football, but the annual Detroit Lions football game. Now, being from Michigan and the Lions being my state's team, I have a certain commitment to them, no matter how horrible they are that year. But, if football is not appealing, it can help you fall asleep even quicker.
5. Read. Yes, really, read. For the past three months, only textbooks have been read, so a nice leisure novel can be relaxing. Grab a classic or a best seller, either way, reading is a great past time, while being relaxing.
6. Friends. Hangout with friends. Talk to them, get coffee with them, ask them how college is, or just still and laugh with each other. Laughter is the cure to all things bad and what's worse than college? So laugh with friends and enjoy the stressless time with them.
7. Hobbies. Above, is a list of pretty much all of my hobbies, but I know that there are creative gurus out there which are just dying to do what they love. College doesn't give much time to just sit and paint or draw or sing or whatever it is you love to do. So during this break, sit down and paint or draw, or sing at the top of your lungs. Do what relaxes you that you don't have any time to do while in classes.
8. Sit. It sounds silly, but sometimes all it takes to recharge the brain is to sit with a cup of coffee or tea and not think. Don't think about anything that has to be done or the stress that awaits the end of the semester. Just sit and do not think.
9. Go Outside. This is a beautiful time of the year where the air is crisp and the weather is changing. Go outside and take a walk while the good weather last, because soon enough there will be snow and lots of it. Go and enjoy this beautiful creation we have.
10. Be Thankful. It is THANKSgiving. A time where a lot of people forget that we need to be thankful. Thankful for the people in our life, the health the we have, and the break that we get. I encourage you that during this break, no matter how long it may be, you point out one thing each day that you are thankful for. A thankful heart is a happy heart.
These are just a few ways to relax this Thanksgiving break. Remember, it is a break, so treat it like one. A break from the stressful college and work life, and a time to recharge and renew and to be thankful.
