Managing your academics, social life, extra curricular activities, remembering to eat, and sleep more than 4 hours a night, can be rough. Here's the ultimate guide that will help YOU survive school.

  1. Are you living in the dorms? Keep your door open! Welcome people to stop in and be sure to make friends with the people around you. They are the people you will be eating with, sleeping next to, sharing experiences with, and seeing every day. It is crucial to make friends during this new journey of yours
  2. Be judge free. Everyone is on their own journey, everyone is experiencing their own things. Welcome new ideas and explore the unique ways that people think.
  3. Do you live off campus? Meal Prep! You can google just about anything and healthy, easy, tasty options will flood your search page. Do you live on campus? Take advantage of the fruit, vegetables, salads, and other healthy options the dining hall has. Eating healthy will give you the energy to make it through your long, exhausting days.
  4. Attend Office Hours. This is real! I know… everyone tells you this. But it is rare that a teacher who knows, you will fail you. The key is to make them remember your name. When they review and grade material, they will remember the extra effort you made.
  5. Choose a major that you are interested in and a major that you are passionate about. Do not just choose something your mother expects, or something just for the money. Choose something that you would love to wake up every day for the next 1,000 plus days, and learn about extensively… and then continue pursuing for the rest of your life. For you indecisive students, it’s okay! Even the students with majors do not have it all figured out, half of the time they switch and add minors or double major… it gets complicated. Take your time declaring your major and explore all fields of learning. A four year degree is suggested, not mandatory.
  6. Buy a calendar, planner, notebook, dry erase board, and/or cork board. Time management is key. Leave post-it reminders to study for your test next week and to finish your paper due Thursday.
  7. Early is on time. On time is late. If you are late, stay home.
  8. Join a club, sport, or team. Stay active and involved. Not only is this an amazing resume builder, you will meet tons of people who share the same interests as you. You will also meet people who can give you insight to new things that may interest you. Not to mention, many opportunities come from meeting the right people.
  9. Get to know the town your college is located in. Adventure out of campus boundaries and go to a local pub, grocery store, or park. People watch, enjoy the weather, treat yourself to some trinkets and nic-naks. Get familiar with your new environment.
  10. Enjoy yourself. Get to know yourself. Do not be afraid of new challenges, embrace all that comes your way. Grow, prosper, learn, and love. Make mistakes. Good ones. Sometimes repeatedly because forgetting the consequence is common. Do not forget where you came from, and who you once were.

Become the person you always wish you had when you were younger.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
