The winter season in Pennsylvania can be brutal in itself. When mixed with the snow on the mountain where Saint Francis University resides (Loretto, PA), it is like being hit with a double whammy. Being from western PA, I have been through my fair share of winters, however, this is my first snow season at SFU.
Here are some tips on how to get through the stubborn snowy season:
10. Get a SOLID pair of snow boots. I recommend a pair like my awesome red "firetruck" boots.
9. Don't take what the weathermen say too literal.
If they say things like, "it's going to be a big one" or "prepare yourselves," they probably don't know exactly what is going to happen. So stay calm.
8. DO NOT drive down the mountain if you don't absolutely have to. Be safe rather than sorry.
7. It is okay to avoid the walk to Torv Dining Hall (especially if you are coming from a girls dorm) every once in a while and just have a ramen noodle night in your PJ's.
6. Bundle up.
Everyone looks silly in huge snow clothes. Stay warm and avoid getting sick!
5. Try to stay active.
The worst thing you can do is hibernate for the winter. Squeeze in a couple workouts. It will help you stay healthy and keep a positive mindset throughout the season.
4. Use the cold weather as an excuse to have a few hot chocolate and Netflix nights with some friends!
Being trapped indoors doesn't have to be a bad thing.
3. Keep your skin moisturized!
The winter air is brutal on skin and hair and it is important to drink water and use some lotion! Your skin will thank you later.
2. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT look at pictures from the summertime and/or the beach.
It will only make you sad.
1. Make the most out of it!
Winter is a beautiful season and there are plenty of opportunities on campus to have some fun in the snow. Build a snowman in front of your dorm, sign up to go sledding and ice skating! Grab some friends and have a good time! Enjoy a little cold weather because before you know it, spring and summer will be here and we will all be complaining about how hot it is.
