Most of the summer time bucket lists I read are usually filled with things you can do for yourself to give yourself the ultimate summer. Which gives the impression that summertime fun has to revolve around you and only you and maybe throw in some friends to help you have more fun. While this is perfectly fine and I love to treat myself however, fun doesn’t have to be so self so absorbed. I think we should also use some of our free time making another person’s day better. Which is often a pretty simple task.
1. Spend time with a relative
Remember when you were younger and your parents used to send you off for summers to visit aunt and uncle-- whoever. Those were some of the best summers of my life. But it seems as we get older these people whom we love so much become distant memories when they don’t always have to be. Go spend a day or to with family while you still have the chance.
2. Call someone
You might not have the resources to take a long trip, you can still pick up that phone that’s already in your hand and give a family member or even a friend a call. An actual conversation will be much more rewarding then a text. Sharing a laugh together definitely beats the laughing emoji.
3. Reconnect with a friend
Meet up with your best friend from High School. You may have had to part because of school or work, however, I’m sure they’ll appreciate you reaching out to them for a little summer fun.
4. Take your siblings out
Your little siblings miss you while you’re away at school and they look forward to spending time with you. Take them out for ice cream or to a water park and I guarantee they will love you for it. Help them to have the best summer of the lives as well.
5. Hang out with your parents
Your parents miss you too. I think sometimes we get caught up with hanging out with friends and going out that we start using our parents house as only a place to sleep. Show those people who raised you that you love them and take them out for a dinner or even a simple walk to the park.
6. Clean
You can show your parents you care and help them out at the same time. They will appreciate if you take a moment from binge watching on Netflix and clean up the living room or the kitchen. They might even appreciate it so much they wont nag you for coming home so late.
7. Clean up the neighborhood
You are not limited to caring about specific people. Show you neighborhood some love and participate in a neighborhood clean up. Often local churches put these events together. Picking up trash not only makes your area beautiful, but its also good for the environment.
8. Pass out water
Help the homeless this summer by passing out water bottles and maybe a small snack. As the days get hotter they need to stay hydrated just like we do.
9. Beach clean up
Since most of your time will be spent at the beach or at least mine will. Picking up any garbage around you might help a defenseless sea creature or bird from chocking on a bottle cap.
10. Volunteer anywhere!
These are just a few ideas of what you can do over summer. You can literally volunteer anywhere. There are tons of organizations who could use your help this summer.
