1. Be respectful.
No matter who you are, you can't deny that respect is a key part of a relationship. If you are in a relationship where you are not respected, get out now.
2. Do not ever joke about cheating.
Cheating is not a joke. It wasn't funny yesterday. It is not funny today and it will NEVER be funny. Maybe try a simple knock knock joke. There is a reason why your significant other gets mad, instead of laughs. Plus after a while, they may start to think it's true, so be careful what you say.
3. Make time.
Time is very important. If you feel that your relationship has weakened, try spending more time with one another. Time is very valuable and if you don't have time, you more then likely don't have much communication, which is also very important.
4. Do not make it always about you.
You may always love going to Chipotle or watching CSI, but switch it up a little. You may really enjoy those things, but also do things that your significant other likes to do too. Sure, they may not complain about it, but there are probably other things that they would rather do. So next time just ask if there is something they would like to watch or somewhere they would like to eat.
5. Be honest.
Like it has always been said, "Honesty is the best policy." It's true. Honesty and trust tie in together. If you are with someone who lies all of the time, you probably do not trust them very much. So make sure you are honest before they never believe anything you ever say again.
6. Talk about it.
Is something bothering you? Did they say something rude? Did they like someone you hate's picture? Did they ignore you? Did they hang out with their friends instead of you? Well the best thing you can do is talk about it. You cannot read minds, so there is no other way you can tell what they are thinking. More than likely, they probably did not even think it would even bother you. So let them know how you're feeling so they can do the same.
7. Learn something new every day.
There is no way you know every single thing about them, so learn new things. Be interested in what they have to say.
8. Support them.
Go to the places they want. Encourage them to follow their dreams. Go support them at their games, concerts, meets, whatever it is they do. Just be their biggest fan.
9. Do not forget to say "thank you."
The little things mean the most. If they buy you food, say thank you. If they open the door for you, say thank you. If they compliment you, say thank you. If they help you clean, say thank you. If they give you a back rub, say thank you. If it is something you would normally say thank you for, say thank you.
10. Compliment..and do it often.
Everyone enjoys a compliment, especially from someone they love. Do it as much as possible. Are they looking good in that new shirt? Tell them. Does their new haircut look nice? Tell them. And say it in person, it really makes a difference.
