10 Ways To Tell That The Holidays Are Coming
Samantha Hinds

As we all know the holidays are rapidly approaching with pumpkin everything taking over almost every industry (including makeup believe it or not,) it won't be long before Thanksgiving is gone and we have gone into the full Christmas mode frenzy. While the holidays have been approaching a little at a time, it seems as though we barely got through Halloween and suddenly BOOM! Christmas is here. Whether you like it or not.

There are some sure signs to tell you when you need to start thinking about what presents you're going to be getting everyone.

1. Starbucks releases their Pumpkin Spice Lattes

This has become known as the true start to fall. Whether the weather has really started changing or not, once those Pumpkin Spice Lattes are for sale, there is no going back.

2. All of a sudden you see plaid and flannel everywhere.

It could still be in the upper 80's and lower 90's and flannel is still making it's grand appearance.

3. Girls start to slowly put away their summer sandals and start pulling out their boots

I think this just comes with the flannel. For every few cute summer tops that get put away, so does a pair of sandals. And for every two sweaters and flannel shirt that comes out of storage, comes a pair of boots. It's really a balancing act.

4. Little by little scarves start to become thicker

There are summer scarves for those that can stand to wear them. But as it gets further into September, the thicker scarves become. Because, you can't go get a pumpkin spice latte in a summer outfit can you? I think that's breaking the rules.

5. You start to see all the Halloween decorations coming out

Even if it isn't October yet, the Halloween decorations start coming out little by little until there is an absolute takeover. Pumpkins start popping up at grocery stores, hardware stores and just about every place you can think of real and fake pumpkins seem to be there.

6. And before Halloween even gets here, Christmas trees start popping up

The week before Halloween is usually when the paper turkeys and the Christmas trees start to make their appearances in the retail world.

7. The day after Halloween, it's starting to get real

All of a sudden the pumpkins turn into Christmas trees and bats turn into reindeer. And, for the next two months it's only going to get worse.

8. Thanksgiving has arrived, only one more month until Christmas

If the Christmas music hasn't started by this point, then it's about to. Thanksgiving day radio stations start to play Christmas songs here and there. But get ready for the day after Thanksgiving, because that's what you'll be listening to for the next month.

9. Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Easily some of the best deals you will find on Christmas presents. So, if you haven't started shopping, now would be the time to do so.

10. It's December

If you haven't gotten everything ready, or even a plan ready, then, good luck my friend, may the odds be ever in your favor.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
