As Christmas creeps closer, it’s time to get the lights out and decorate your dorm to make it all your own. Nothing helps put people in the Christmas spirit than creating their dorm into a Christmas Wonderland. Especially with finals right around the corner, renovating your dorm into a room that rivals Santa’s workshop will help make the stress melt away. Here are 10 ways I came up with to make your dorm into the ideal Christmas Wonderland:

  1. Instead of spending a lot of money on a small tree this Christmas hang up lights in the shape of a tree and place gifts under the it to save money while at the same time saving space. You can also fashion your own star out of scrapbook paper and place it at the top. Another thing to add to your tree of lights is to create your own bulbs out of scrapbook paper and hang it from the lights. Check Pinterest plenty of creative ways to accomplish this.
  2. Go out to Five Below or any place that sells cheap window decals to deck out your ugly sliding doors—if you have one—in your dorm room. They are really cheap, cute, and add just a little extra Christmas spirit. If you don't have a sliding glass door you can also add these to your mirror in the bathroom.
  3. Rather than spending too much money on stockings go out and buy cheap stockings and decorate them with fabric paint or puffy paint. You can personalize it so everyone can add their own touch to their stocking. It is also a good time to bond with your roommates over your love of Christmas.
  4. Next, you can decorate your door with wrapping paper to make it look like anything you want. You can go all out and wrap the entire door to look like a present or just add a cute Christmas bow for a little touch of cheer.
  5. One of the easiest things to make are snowflakes. I mean come on, we all learned how to do this in elementary school. You can cut really cool designs out of white paper, attach them to string, and hang from your ceiling to create a winter wonderland.
  6. If you have a lot of empty wall space, a great way to make it exciting and Christmas-y is to create a big count-down to Christmas calendar. There are so many ways to do this so you can be a as creative as possible. It is a great way to bond with your roommates as well as get more and more excited as Christmas gets closer.
  7. Buy a box of lights—you can get some for under $10—and string them anywhere you like and into whatever deigns your heart desires.
  8. A great thing to top off any great room is to add candles or great smelling wallflowers that remind you of Christmas. Bath and Body Works always has amazing smelling candles and wallflowers that can get you in the Christmas spirit and they are always having great deals during the holiday season.
  9. Anyone have a super boring and ugly white fridge? I know I do. Instead of leaving it plain, turn it into a snowman. You could use either felt, wrapping paper, or paper to create your snowy friend.
  10. One last trick you can do is really simple but fun. Find your favorite Christmas word and cute out paper letters—as big as you want—and tape it onto an empty wall. Next, get tape and make a frame around it to make it clean and nice. To top it off create a bow out of wrapping paper and that seals the deal.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
