Alright, it's the last stretch before finals and although you want to cram in all the information you can, it's important to stay calm. Stressing out will not in any way help you on your exams, but by using these out of the ordinary techniques to de-stress, I hope you find an outlet through this week of hell.

1. Breathe!

Do it with me now; three second deep inhale, hold for three and three second deep exhale. Now, repeat that when you start to feel overwhelmed while working on that study guide or even during your exam to just re-center and focus.

2. Yoga!

Almost every campus offers group fitness classes and yoga classes that you need to utilize this week. The combination of stretching and being more aware of your mind creates a soothing and relaxing emotional thrill.

3. Clean up!

While studying, set a timer for five minutes and just use that time to clean up the area around you. Organize your desk, put away some laundry and tidy up! This little break will take your mind off your work and give you an opportunity to organize. An organized space will make you feel like you have just organized your mind, trust me!

4. Walk!

Take a 10 minute walk outside. The fresh air will relieve stress and the exercise will release endorphins that can reduce anxiety. And you never know, you might even see a puppy or two on your walk. If that's not enough to get out, then I don't know what else is.

5. Snack on healthy foods!

Nuts, avocados and fresh fruits are perfect study snack options! Throw that bag of trail mix in your backpack or slice an avocado and eat it with a fork! These foods increase awareness and energy.

6. Drink tea!

While coffee can give you that boost of caffeine, it increases blood pressure which can actually cause you more stress. Tea is a 'mind soother,' and teas like green and jasmine are known to reduce anxiety and tension while putting the mind at ease.

7. Pucker up!

Yes, you heard me! Kissing is an excellent stress reliever! It helps the brain release endorphins, which will reduce stress!

8. Chew gum!

While it obviously makes your breath better, the actual act of chewing gum releases anxiety and improves awareness.

9. Say 'bye' to your phone!

Turning off your phone makes you less likely to feel the pressure to respond to texts or stay connected on social media. Doing this will shift your focus to your studying.

10. Eat a banana!

Bananas improve energy and recovery! Eating a banana can regulate your blood pressure that rises during times of stress. Go down to your local food store and stock up on a couple of these goodies to get you through the week!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
