10 Ways to De-Stress (During Finals)

Here are 10 easy ways to make busy times that much more bearable. Try one or all and be amazed by the benefits!

1. Work out

Whether you run, crunch, or do yoga, working out relieves stress in no time! Carve physical activity into your routine during stressful times to get that negative energy out!

2. Color

Coloring has become super popular among adults within the last six months. I have twoI t coloring books of my own and they are life savers. Taking a break from studying to color allows me to focus on one thing and see the amount of progress I make in such a short amount of time. 3. Bake

Using a completely different part of your brain to cook or bake is very relaxing. Now, you may not be The Next Great Baker, but even throwing together a brownie mix releases some of that anxiety, plus the results are pretty irresistible.

4.Stargaze

Take a break at night and stare up at those magical dots in the sky. By looking at things from a distance, we often remember how little we are. Stars definitely put things in perspective.

5. Have a random dance party!

Blasting Taylor Swift, the Beatles, or any of your favorite artists can't get you down. Spend two songs jumping on the bed, dancing on a table, and singing at the top of your lungs. I promise productivity will seem more bearable after this party!

6. Kiss!

If you're lucky enough to have a special someone around, pucker up! Kissing releases endorphins which allow for more focus. Don't get too carried away though! Get back to that task.

7. Hide your phone.

Turning off that device for even fifteen minutes can seem like a real break. Face it, our phones do stress us out. By waiting for a text, email, call, or even checking Instagram ten times a day, we are attached. Just unplug from technology and get back to reality.

8. Chew some gum.

Chewing gum releases anxiety. Just please don't chomp down on Double Bubble with your mouth open.

9. Go for a ten minute walk, or just open the window!

Getting fresh air and an increase of serotonin can have a significant impact on your mood. After spending time outside, you will feel more relaxed and refreshed, ready to buckle down!

10. Make a list of what you're thankful for.

By taking the time to stop and recall your family, friends, vacations, games, and extra special experiences, clarity takes over. Suddenly that assignment or task doesn't seem so large anymore. Also, with supporters like yours, there is always someone willing to help or lend a hand! Its okay to take advantage of that!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
