As the holidays are nearing, the fall semester of college is winding down. While the change in weather brings warm blankets by the fire and peppermint flavored everything, it also brings heaps of stress for college students. The children may be nestled all snug in their beds, but college students are restlessly studying with coffee in their hands. It seems the looming finals have brought endless hours in the library, hushed study groups and the anxiety of passing tests. Studying for finals has certainly left me exhausted. On Friday, when my last final was over, it was a tremendous sigh of relief. I had survived my first semester of finals. Here is a list of the creative ways celebrate, which my friends and I might have all done.

1. Eat a meal with your friend group all together.

Most likely it has been some time since all of your friends were together to laugh over some food with the stress finals has brought. Now is a great time to squeeze in one last memorable meal with your pals before winter break.

2. Take a break if you have time and watch a movie with some friends.

It can be a Christmas movie or a Disney movie or a scary movie but take a break. Sitting in your friend’s dorm with a movie and festive lighting will alleviate some of the stress. You will be very silly as well given the impending doom of your test the next day

.

3. Take a walk around your campus or around your neighborhood.

Seriously, you will look at your surrounding differently after all the worry is gone. You will feel the wind and the sun in your face and feel refreshed.

4. Go Christmas shopping.

This is your chance to catch up on the mall visits.

5. Reflect on the funny moments in a certain class.

There was a certain class this semester that you and your friends have had some good quotes from or projects that were hard to get through. Remember the good times you shared plugging away in that class.

6. Jam out to some holiday tunes.

It may seem ordinary, but listening to music promotes positive feelings.

7. Binge watch shows on Netflix

Most likely several shows are waiting for you which you had the self-control to not watch while you were studying for finals. It’s time to get to it and watch them all now (aka Doctor Who).

8. Spend time with you family back home.

Believe it or not, but they have missed you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
