Luckily for me, I was raised by two Portuguese immigrants who were proud about our heritage and culture. I continue to live my life honoring and remembering my wonderful Portuguese culture and heritage through speaking Portuguese, visiting Portugal, and continuing family traditions. If you’re not Portuguese, you’re missing out. Here are ways to become more Portuguese:

1. The first step to becoming more Portuguese is to begin your day by going to a coffee shop. You have to order a “Galão,” meanwhile you drool all over the pastry selection before you finally get "Um pastel de nata."

2. As soon as you get back home, forget that you have just had breakfast and immediately start thinking about lunch. You must think about food constantly.

3. While you’re thinking about lunch, you have to learn to cook at least 3 recipes containing cod fish “Bacalhau.”

4. When in social settings, you must greet every with two kisses on the cheek, sometimes three…

5. If you want to be more Portuguese talking extremely loudly (yelling) is completely normal. If you get involved in heated discussions with Portuguese people, don’t be shy, say your opinion and stick to it.

6. Learn how to play soccer, “futebol” and make sure you know who Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Eusébio are.

7. Understand Portuguese is not Spanish.

8. Understand the difference between Portuguese from Portugal and Portuguese from Brazil.

9. Drink lots of wine, especially Port wine after dinner.

10. Think about food again.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
