Olivia Pope is the definition of a female powerhouse. Not only is she one of Washington's political powerhouses, but she is on and off with the President of the United States. Who wouldn't want her life? Here are 10 simple ways to be more like the bad@$$ Olivia Pope from "Scandal."

1. Never let anyone tell you what or what not to do... Even if he is the leader of your country.

2. Eat nothing but red wine and popcorn, no exceptions.

3. Have your complete wardrobe be white and cream.

4. Master your strut. You need to walk like a powerhouse to be a powerhouse.

5. Learn how to captivate a room with only your voice.

6. Put yourself first. Always.

7. Have complete confidence in yourself.

8. Be a feminist.

9. Know who you are and how much you are worth.

10. Do not give people the easy way out, let them earn it.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
