10 Ways To Be Active In College

1. Go to your free student athletic facility. This is a great way to stay active by using your free student gym. Lift some weights or do some elliptical, it really doesn't matter as long as you're moving. Student gyms are like the ultimate judgment free zone, everyone is trying to work off that freshman 15.

2. Do an intramural sport. Intramural sports don't require you to have any experience. The main purpose is to have fun while being active, not to mention it is a great way to meet new people.

3. Go to a student-led exercise class. Again most of the times these student-led classes are free and a great way to get active when you may not exactly know how. Most college campuses offer tons of free classes varying from yoga to Crossfit to kickboxing.

4. Join a club sport. If you played a sport in high school but didn't continue to the college level, club sports allow you to still play the sport you love with a bit less commitment. Club sports are a great outlet for that competitive fire.

5. Play on a college sports team. If you are lucky enough to have enough talent and time to play a sport at the college level it is a great way to stay in shape. College sports can be brutal, and they will kick your butt. But hey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

6. Do the student organization run 5Ks. If your school is anything like mine, there is a different 5K run every month for a different organization on campus. Usually they are charity runs raising money for some great causes. Not only are you getting your exercise, you're also supporting a great cause.

7. Walk with your boo-thang instead of Netflix and chilling. Taking a walk with your significant other or just a friend is a great way to spend quality bonding time not glued to a couch eating bags of chips. Taking a romantic walk is always a win for the ladies.

8. Bike to class. Biking to class can be a great option for students who live on big campuses. Even if you don't go to a big school biking is still more active than driving or taking a bus to class.

9. Play pick up games. Be it three on three basketball or some beach volleyball, spur of the moment games can keep you active and on your toes. Anyone up for some shirts verses skins?

10. Walk to class. When all other attempts at fitness or working out have failed, or if your simply not into sweating, walking to class is a great way to stay active in college. This is so easy and everyone can do it, just leave a few minutes earlier than usual in order to account for the extra time. Plus it's an easy way to get your steps in.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
