Today’s dating scene is an interesting one. With the move from traditional courtship to the boom of online dating, it has become harder to truly get to know someone. As a girl who has had a fair share of bad dates and heartbreaks, I am over wasting time on guys who are not worth a second thought.

Life is too short to put up with a guy's BS.

Unfortunately, many guys can put on a good show. It is often not until much later, when you're invested in the relationship, that you start to see his true colors. No matter the length of the relationship, one should never stay in a toxic or unhealthy situation. While we can't always notice the bad apples, here are some warning signs that your "perfect" guy may be bad news.

1. He starts making comments.

They start off small. A comment here about your attire. A comment there about something you said. Before you know it, he comments about everything.

2. He interrupts you.

It is usually a sign he is more interested in himself than listening to you. Additionally, it just means he's rude.

3. He uses jokes to put you down

He defends himself with “chill it’s just a joke” when you ask him to stop. If he does not stop, tell him to take his jokes elsewhere.

4. He belittles your opinion and beliefs.

It is ok to have differing opinions and beliefs than your significant other as long as there is two-way respect. What you believe is a part of what makes you unique. No guy should make you second guess yourself.

5. He does not own up to his actions.

He can do no wrong. It was the actions of everyone else that caused him to act poorly. He is always the victim of the situation.

6. He picks fights constantly.

All relationships are going to have disagreements. If he picks multiple fights a week over minute things, dump him and don’t look back.

7. It’s always your fault.

Take ownership of your actions but do not let him use you as a scapegoat for his poor behavior. Do not let him manipulate the situation to put the blame on you.

8. You can’t interact with any other guys without him getting angry or making snarky remarks.

This is a huge warning sign. If a guy cannot handle you talking to or having guy friends, tell him bye. Guys like this tend to be highly controlling and toxic.

9. You have to change yourself to appease him

Don’t ever change who you are because of any person, ESPECIALLY a guy.

10. He does not respect you.

Whether it is your values, your feelings, or your time, if he does not respect you, he does not deserve you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
