I, just like any other struggling college student, am always looking for something to encourage me. Bible verses and quotes are some of the things I look to when I am stressed out and feeling the pressure that senior year of college can bring to someone. Here are ten of the Bible verses and quotes that I hold close to my heart and go to when I am struggling.
1. “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Dr Wayne Dyer
The way you look at something is one of the biggest factors that shape how you view your situation. When you have the mindset that things are awful and couldn't possibly get any better then they won't. When you look at things more positively, you'll start to find the silver lining in everyday life.
2. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."- Hebrew 12:1
There is a senior song at my college called "Oh May All Who Come Behind Us Find Us Faithful." Part of that song incorporates a part of this verse and every time I read this verse, I'm reminded to always persevere and to set a good example for all those who will come after me when I am gone.
3. “When spirits grow faint within me, it is you who knows my way.” Psalm 142:3
God knows my way and He makes my steps sure even when I am completely unsure about myself or what I am doing.
4. “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – C.S. Lewis
Sometimes to continue on the path that God has set for us we have to leave people or things behind. It isn't always easy, but when we learn to let go we will find something much greater.
5. “When you get to the end of the rope, tie a knot and hang on.” – Franklin D Roosevelt
Sometimes you just have to keep fighting and toughing things out. Even when you're almost out of strength and energy.
6. “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” – Muhammad Ali
All the intelligence and skill in the world won't do you any good if you don't have the will to do anything with it.
7. “Don't Dream Your Life, Live Your Dreams...”- Miasha
You are capable of doing great things in life. Don’t dream about what you could achieve. Wake up, work hard, and make your life what you want it to be.
8. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
I have heard this verse many times over the years, but it wasn’t until the most stressful times that I truly understood that I cannot rely on me alone. God knows what our life has in store for us and He wants us to rely on Him as we walk the path of our lives.
9. "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong"- 1 Corinthians 16:13
Throughout my time at Judson, I have learned how important it is to be strong in my faith. Standing firmly through every trial and storm thrown my way.
10. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7.
Got questions? Go to God in prayer, His answers may not always be what we want to hear and sometimes they don’t come exactly when we want them, but they will be what we need.
