College consists of a wide spectrum of emotions as we attempt to balance our studies, have a “college life”, enjoy our family and friends, and simply everything in between. It seems more often than not anxiety, doubts, and discouragement begins to hit, as the many demands a college student faces overwhelm us. As we approach a few weeks into the semester, it is easy to see the many assignments, quizzes, and tests coming up and wanting to run. However, that is when I am reminded that I do not have to face the semester alone for God is with me. Here are some verses to get us through the semester.

1. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” Psalm 56:3

Instead of allowing the fear of not succeeding or failing cloud our mind and affect our decisions, let’s place our trust in God for he has promised us greatness.

2. “So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

It is almost second nature to preoccupy or minds on the test coming up in two weeks or the lab report due next week, but we are told not to worry about tomorrow. Instead we are told to focus on the day at hand by doing all God has called us to do.

3. “Cast all your anxiety on him: because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

The stress and anxiety you are facing should not be bottled up. You do not have to handle it on your own. The Lord wants us to lay all our worries at the foot of the cross for He cares about us.

4. “I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born, says the Lord.” Isaiah 66:9

The trials and tribulations you may be facing may seem to never leave or get better, but the Lord has promised that this situation will make you stronger.

5. “Do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give you strength, truly I help you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

God has assured us He will not leave us. If the circumstance seems unbearable, do not worry for God is with you and will get you through it.

6. “When my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2

It is easy to want to control our lives trying to make everything appear “perfect”. However, this causes us to be overwhelmed, but the Lord tells us to give it all to Him. LET GO and LET GOD do what He was meant to do in our lives.

7. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

When tests seem harder than we expected, our professors seem to pile on too much work, or things do not seem to go as planned, we are reminded that God is for us. If He is for us then there is nothing else we need to worry about.

8. “Never worry about anything; but tell God all your desires of every kind in prayer and petition shot through with gratitude.” Philippians 4:5

As we begin to get overwhelmed, it is easy to neglect prayer because we feel there is not enough time. However, prayer is an important aspect in our relationship with God, and it keeps us connected. He wants to know about our day and what is troubling us. Do not forget to keep him in the loop when things get crazy.

9. “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

We are reminded that God has plans for us far bigger and greater than anything we have imagined. He loves us and has our best interest at heart. It’s time to trust in His plans over the ones we create for our lives.

10. “God is with her, she will not fall.” Psalms 46:5

Lastly, we know how much God loves us, and He wants what is best for us. He is always with us, so we will not fall but achieve greatness in all we do.

Let us attack this semester with full force knowing our God is with us every step of the way. He has promised us greatness and never to leave us. Before you worry and panic, remember these verses and all He has assured us.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
