Everyone knows that Detroit is up and coming with brand new businesses every day but no one really knows about all the cool places there is to visit. I asked around and did some visiting myself, and I came up with an awesome list of places to eat. Best part about it is they're places not everyone knows about and they won't break the bank.

Green Dot Stables

(313) 962-5588 220 West Lafayette Detroit, MI 4821
(313) 962-5588

This place is closer to the Mexican Town than it is the heart of downtown Detroit but it's something you do not want to pass up on. Green Dot has the history of the horse racing as well as providing a fun, relaxed, environment to make memories. Not only is the food delicious but it's at a great price. They have a $3.00 Food and Drink menu, whoa! Who wouldn't love that? If you're looking for more for you taste buds than sliders, they have tasty soups, salads, and plenty of different sides to try. I personally recommend the mac and cheese.

Parks & Rec Diner

1942 Grand River Avenue Detroit, MI 48226

(313) 446-8370

This cozy diner is in the Grand ARMY of the Republic building which was where the original Parks & Rec. Department of Detroit was for 40 years. They focus on breakfast but have a pretty good lunch menu especially during the weekdays; and they have boozy drinks that you can order any time. They have the solid classics as well as spice up some original recipes of their own.

Traffic Jam & Snug

511 West Canfield Detroit, MI 48201

(313) 831-9470

In Midtown you'll find this little treasure that has their own in-house bakery and microbrewery. This multi-level restuarunt makes every dish from scratch. Yep, you read it right. From. Scratch. They have award-winning cheeses and were actually the first brew-pub in Michigan in 1992. Ever since then, they've been a big local favorite.

HopCat

4265 WOODWARD AVE, DETROIT, MI 48201
(313) 769-8828

Hopcat is a good place to go if you're looking for some good bites and drinks. It's in a historic building on Woodword Ave. with their mission being to Bring you good beer. Everyone can find something to enjoy between the 130 craft beers on tap or the delicious food menu. If you're a fan of cheese you will love their signature cheese sauce; it's delicious.

Red Smoke Barbecue

573 Monroe St, Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 962-2100

Greektown has a lot to offer but one thing that stands out is this place, Red Smoke. In the two-story historic building they slow cook the dishes over hickory and apple wood that have your mouth watering just by the smell. Not to mention the 12 sides you get to choose from, that might I add are so yummy they could be a meal on their own.

Motor City Brewing Company

470 W Canfield St, Detroit, MI 48201
(313) 832-2700

Established in 1994, Motor City Brewer Co. has been producing hand-crafted beer in Detroit. They're located in the heart of Downtown near Wayne State University and just blocks from Comerica Park. If you're not that big into beer, don't worry they have something for everyone with their own hard ciders, and wine.

Magic Stick

4120 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI, 48201
(313) 833-9700

In 1990's the owner of the Magestic's took out 8 bowling lanes and replaced them with 10 pool tables and a dance floor. Since then people have been coming here for every kind of entertainment, good drinks & eats. The second floor doesn't have any more bowling lanes, but the dance floor is bigger and the renovations made more room for fun. They host a lot of events through out the year so make sure to check up, you never know who will be playing live next.

Cornerstone Barrel House

1456 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 338-3238

This place looks tiny from the outside but don't let that fool you. They have a great menu and you can watch the cooks prepare your food while you share drinks with your friends. Some of the meals can look a little on the pricey side but the portions they serve are worth it.
I split the mac n cheese with my friend and we still had leftovers. At night, the basement turns into a dancing scene. Kinda like business on the top and party down under.

Atwater Brewery

237 Jos Campau, Detroit, MI 48207
(313) 877-9205

In the historic Rivertown District in Detroit you'll find the home of Atwater Brewery. They established a German style lager with the oldest makers of brewing equipment in the world. Later on they also added their own unique ales to the list. Atwater has a lot of people who are deeply involved with the company, what they produce and what the costumers like. The environment is very welcoming, even if you go in alone you'll find yourself having a good conversation.

Central Kitchen & Bar

660 Woodward Ave #4a, Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 936-9000

In the mid nineteenth century Cadillac Square, housed the Detroit Central Farmer's Market. The market was known for representing the economic and heart of social, daily life in Detroit; and it's the spirit Central Kitchen keeps alive. Their goal is to help renovate and keep this the city's core alive and fun. With their chef putting his own twists on classic bar food their own coffee blend; everyone can find something to enjoy.

There's a lot of great places to eat Downtown Detroit. Get out, explore the city, and let your taste buds enjoy all the varieties there is to offer. I promise you and your wallet will be satisfied.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.
