10 Unexpected Realities of Raising a Cat

1. You gain a whole new level of cuddling

The face nuzzling and leg rubs quickly turn into hugs and full on sprawls on your chest. Calmer than a dog and about the same amount of fur...

2. That's for about a second...

Cats are easily stimulated and some can become overstimulated without much cause.

3. Which is usually when the claws get pulled out...

Don't let the cute faces and soft fur lure you too close for too long, their sharp little claws will leave you looking like you enjoy hurting yourself.

4. Being killers is in their blood...

They are constantly looking for new ways to exploit your weaknesses.

5. They appoint themselves as your personal alarm clock...

Whether it be clawing at your toes or suffocating you with their bodies; after 6 hours of sleep it's their time to make sure you're still alive (mostly so you can feed them).

6. The cuteness can be overwhelming...

The cat will play cute for friends and visitors and regardless of a fair warning someone goes away upset.

7. They're great study buddies...

Fortunately their sleep cycle will have them passed out on your homework when you should be working but are on Twitter instead. Otherwise they'll be on your lap, the keyboard or knocking objects off elevated surfaces around your house.

8. Speaking of which..

They'll be constantly reminding you of the perils of leaving uncapped beverages around the house. Mostly just to tease you.

9. Your cat is more photogenic than you...

No matter how annoying your cat can be; you find yourself doing way more cat photoshoots than you would ever consider for yourself. Just one of the many reasons you're running out of space on your phone.

10. You will be reminded of values...

The value of a good box. While it may not seem like much, to a cat, it's cheap entertainment. In the hustle of life we often forget that it's the simple things which make us feel the safest and most at peace.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
