So you call yourself a Beatles fan? Sure, you may know how to Twist and Shout and you may think to be the ultimate Beatles fan All You Need is Love, but a true fan would not just settle for the mainstream Beatles tunes; they simply would not Let it Be. So put your Beatles knowledge to the test with my list of the top 10 most underrated songs by The Beatles that everyone Across the Universe should listen to at least once.
1. Good Day Sunshine
A song from the Revolver album, Good Day Sunshine is a happy and upbeat tune that will keep you tapping your foot or singing along, perfect for a start to your morning or a car ride with a friend.
2. Honey Pie
A song from my all time favorite album, The White Album, Honey Pie is one that you should definitely listen to the next time you pick up this album. A short and sweet song that will make you feel as though you are in a dance hall in the 20's, it is a perfect song for you and your lover to dance the night away to.
3. Fixing a Hole
An underrated classic from the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album that seems to get pushed into the shadows behind the more popular songs off of this album. The next time you give this album a listen spend some time listening to this tune, it really is one of their more artistic works that really puts their "unique" side on display.
4. Happiness is a Warm Gun
The White Album is by far the most artistic album The Beatles ever produced. This is one of my favorites from the album and is by far one of the most underrated and overlooked songs on the album. Lennon saw a magazine cover reading "Happiness is a Warm Gun" and thought it was such an insane and fantastic thing to say. The title definitely fits the insane sound and lyrics of this song.
5. When I'm Sixty-Four
When I'm Sixty-Four is a cute tune that you cannot help but sing along or tap your foot to. This song is simple and consists of instruments not normally used in other songs by The Beatles including a clarinet trio, bells, and a piano. The Beatles admitted that this was a song they never envisioned writing but is defiantly one to listen to.
6. For No One
There are a lot of people who think that most songs by The Beatles are happy, upbeat, weird, or psychedelic in sound, but they also have a softer, somber side. Another song off of the Revolver album, For No One shows off the slower, ballad side to their music that touches the hearts of their fans.
7. I Will
A rare acoustic tune, I Will is a simple tune that features a sweeter side of The Beatles and their music. This tune will melt your heart and is perfect to share and listen to with your significant other.
8. I'll Follow The Sun
I'll Follow the Sun has a sweet tenderness, yet tragic meaning, to the words behind what Paul McCartney is singing. In the end, whatever tragedy life throws at you, whether it is a breakup or a loss, always remember to look for the light and follow the sun.
9. Got To Get You Into My Life
Another fun tune that will have you dancing and singing along in the car, at home, school, or even work. It is a happy, upbeat tune featuring a bright brass fanfare that is guaranteed to turn your mood around.
10. Golden Slumbers
An underrated and overlooked song on the Revolver album, Golden Slumbers is truly a masterpiece from The Beatles. This song strips The Beatles down to their raw form and really showcases their musicality and talent as writers and musicians. If you are looking for a song with a lot of emotion that will touch your heart, this is the song for you.
Whatever type of music you like to listen to, I guarantee there is a Beatles song out there for you!
