I was late to hop about the Gilmore Girls train, about seven years late, but I also managed to binge watch all seven seasons in about a month. So when it was announced that a revival season was going to be on Netflix, I was beyond excited, especially since it was going to be written by show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. On November 25, Netflix released Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, all four hour and half long episodes, "Winter", "Spring", "Summer", "Fall". Here are some questions that the series left me with. *The following will contain spoilers of the series*
1. What has/will happen(ed) to Christopher?
The first and only time we see Christopher in A Year in the Life is during Fall for maybe 5 minutes tops. In that time not a lot is explained. How much contact has Rory had with Christopher? How/Why did Christopher "cave" into working for his father? Will he ever settle down?
2. How did Luke and Lorelai get back together?
I know that the finale of the seventh season of the original series, they kissed, but what happened to have them together when A Year in the Life started?
3. What has been happening with Dean?
He was also a brief part of the new episodes. When Rory sees him, all we find out is he's married to a girl named Jenny, has three kids, another one on the way, and they live in Scranton. How did he meet Jenny? Why Scranton?
4. Why wasn't Lorelai more mad when she found out Rory was having an affair with Logan?
I know Rory is 32 when A Year in the Life starts, but Lorelai got so mad when Rory slept with Dean back in the season 4 finale/ season 5 opener. Dean was married then, Logan is engaged... I mean I know he didn't say I do, but the concept of an affair is still there.
5. What's been happening with Sookie?
So Sookie and Jackson left two years ago to start a farm? Um why? How? And has the Dragonfly Inn really sustained two years without a chef? What toll has this taken on Sookie and Lorelai's friendship?
6. What's going to happen with Jess?
It was made very clear that Jess still has feeling for Rory. It was made apparent in the original series, and it was made EXTREMELY clear during the long lingering look he had through the window in the new episodes. It was Jess' idea for Rory to write her book, and he is Luke's nephew, who is now Rory's new Step-Father? (Hello, complicated plot?) so he's bound to be in her life right?
7. Rory's book
If Lorelai was so against Rory writing the book, why did she continue to do it? Is the title of her book a slight homage to the series title? Will it be successful?
8. Why was Paul necessary?
Poor Paul, no one ever remembered him, including Rory, who has apparently been dating him for two years! I don't know how you just forget you're dating someone. Also it was evident that Rory's affair with Logan was the main romance that was being focused on, so why was Paul even there?
9. How and Why did Rory and Logan's affair start?
When we left Rory and Logan in the original series, Rory had turned down Logan's proposal and left to travel the country. I know Logan lives by the motto In Ominous Paratus, but still that was devastating to him. What happened when they met in Hamburg? Didn't they try casual dating during their Yale years and it didn't work? Why does it now work? How long has this been going on? How long has Logan been with Odette? Where did he meet her?
10. The Last Four Words
The infamous last four words, that were apparently predestined from the beginning of Gilmore Girls. WHAT?! HOW?! WHO?! WHY?! I have my suspicions, and if you've watched both series as I have, you will have your own conclusions. But you can't just end a series like that! As brilliant as it is, cliffhanger endings of shows are not nice!
I loved watching Gilmore Girls:A Year in the Life.It answered some questions and it dealt with Edward Herrmman who played Richard Gilmore's death beautifully. There were some spectacularly filmed and edited scenes, one of my favorites being when Rory is walking through Richard and Emily's house to write her book and you see the memories that are there. She even walks into Richard's study and you see him sitting there- It's a very heartwarming/breaking scene. You have the craziness of Stars Hollow, everything from Taylor Doose's Town meetings to the Stars Hollow Musical.
I really enjoyed watching Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, I just wish that there were a few more things answered, but I guess this means they might have to continue and give us answers in the future!
