1) The Walking Dead
You’ve probably heard of ‘The Walking Dead’, a popular AMC TV show based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman. The show revolves around a group of survivors trying to make it by each day in a zombie apocalyptic setting. Throughout the show, we see our favorite characters face new challenges, endure loss and harden as they grow more and more accustomed to living in the dangerous world that now surrounds them. To those of you who like a thrill and haven’t yet seen ‘The Walking Dead’, I highly recommend it!
2) Fear the Walking Dead
If you’ve already seen ‘The Walking Dead,’ you’ve probably heard of the spin off series, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’. To those whom are unfamiliar with ‘The Walking Dead’, the show revolves around a police officer named Rick Grimes who was in a coma when the apocalypse unfolded, so viewers didn’t actually see how it all started. In ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, we see how things went to hell from the perspective of another group in a different place and watch their fight for survival.
3) Game of Thrones
‘Game of Thrones’ is HBO’s hit show based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” If you like shows that take place in a medieval fantasy setting with a fantastic story and a show that will always keep you anxious to see what’ll happen next, you’ll like ‘Game of Thrones’. If you don’t like that type of show… you’ll still probably fall in love with the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe.
4) Arrow
'Arrow’ is a show that more so appeals to a certain type of audience and less so to everybody, however, if you’re a fan of superheroes, ‘Arrow’ is a fantastic series to watch. The story revolves around Oliver Queen, who had life easy for awhile as a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist before his life took a turn and he transformed himself into a vigilante superhero who fights crime and protects his city. If you’re a fan of badass action-packed shows, then you may just like ‘Arrow’.
5) Flash
Similarly to ‘Arrow,’ the ‘Flash’ appeals to a more certain type of audience and not so much to everybody. Based on comic books published by DC Comics, the story revolves around Barry Allen, an individual whom acquired superpowers when he was hit by lightning. The whole series is action-packed, so if you like a good story mixed with badass superpowers and fights, watch the ‘Flash’! You may just get sucked into the superhero universe!
6) Spartacus
The story of ‘Spartacus’ revolves around the story of an unnamed man who was captured as a war prisoner by the Romans and condemned to a life of slavery, fighting as a gladiator in the arena for the pleasure and entertainment of others. Unlike other gladiators, however, Spartacus forged a name for himself in the arena and the show revolves around his fight for his freedom in hopes to someday make it back home. I highly recommend this three season long show if you’re either intrigued by the history of the Romans, bloody and badass fights, or both!
7) Vikings
‘Vikings’ is a fantastic TV show revolving around a viking by the name of Ragnar Lothbrok, who is tired of his boring everyday life and wants to set out on an adventure overseas to discover and potentially conquer new lands. However, the Earl of Ragnar’s village, or else known as the chieftain - doesn’t believe that anything lies overseas and instead continues to merely invade the same countries over and over again without any gain, because those countries have become nothing from the frequent invades over the course of many years. Ragnar, however, seeks great fortune and is determined to pursue his dream and sail west in search of glory. ‘Vikings’ is another great show that on top of entertainment, is also pretty educational in the sense that you learn a bit about the Vikings, their terminology, their beliefs and their conquests. If you’re a fan of action-packed adventures with a lot of fighting and a good story with many plot twists and turns, you should definitely check out ‘Vikings!’
8) The Originals
‘The Originals’ is a spinoff of CW’s popular show ‘Vampire Diaries’ and revolves around the story of the original family of vampires and their lives in the 21st century as they fight for dominance over a race they created and now wants them dead. The show features several supernatural creatures from Vampires and Werewolves to Witches and hints of other mysteriously supernatural beings. Truthfully, I’ve seen several “vampire and werewolf” shows and movies, however, a big part as to why I really liked ‘The Originals’ was that the show wasn’t too cheesy and packed with action and a good story. If you’re also somebody who likes stories revolving around supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves and witches - there’s a good chance you may just like CW’s ‘The Originals.’
9) Smalleville
Compared to the rest of the list, Smallville’s a fairly older show that first premiered back in 2001, however, in my opinion the show might be old but it’s gold. The show revolves around Clark Kent, or better known yet as Superman, however, in his younger years when all of his powers were still developing. The show as a whole is a total of 10 seasons and can get pretty slow at times, however, if you like a show with a great story, a bit of romance and plot twist and turns, you might just fall in love with ‘Smallville’.
10) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
I’m not sure I could have made a top 10 list and not have included this classic. ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ first premiered in 1990 and features Will Smith who pretty much plays himself as he moves from living in West Philadelphia where he lived with his mother on a fairly tight budget to living in his wealthy uncle and aunt’s Bel-Air mansion. The show is pretty much Will’s life after he’s moved and him adjusting to living among the preppy and the rich. If you haven’t yet seen ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ it’s a great watch if you’re ever in the mood to laugh and I honestly highly recommend either watching it or re-watching this great show if you haven't in awhile.
The list of shows I've included above are 10 of my favorite shows I've ever watched, however, that's not at all to say that they're the best shows ever made or anything of the sort. Furthermore, you may have noticed that I didn't include some popular shows that you might think I'm crazy to have excluded from this list, however, do keep in mind I've got a TON of shows left on my "to watch" list that I've yet to get to! I hope you enjoyed scrolling through this list though and I've maybe convinced you to watch something new! Thanks!
