The 10 Best TV Pilots In History

Many television shows have come and gone, but only few have had unforgettable pilots. The pilot is basically what makes the show. These ten episodes were the best in my opinion.

10. The O.C.

In this pilot, we are introduced to Ryan Atwood (Benjamin Mckenzie) and his hard life in Chino, California. Ryan and his brother Trey get arrested while trying to steal a car. Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher) then chooses to represent Ryan as his lawyer, and realizes the potential that Ryan has. He decides to drive him home, but finds that Ryan's abusive family has fled. After seeing that he has nowhere else to stay, Sandy decides to bring him home to Orange County, California. When he arrives home, his wife Kirsten (Kelly Rowan) isn't thrilled about a criminal staying with them. Sandy assures Kirsten that Ryan isn't a criminal and just has an abusive family and lives in a bad neighborhood. Kirsten then lets Ryan stay in the pool house. Sandy introduces Ryan to his son Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) who doesn't really fit in with the kids at school. Ryan introduces himself to Marissa (Mischa Barton) and begins to have feelings for her. Marissa and her best friend Summer (Rachel Bilson) invite Ryan to a party and he brings along Seth. Seth has had a crush on Summer for 10 years, but gets upset because everyone likes Ryan better than him including Summer. Things get heated when Luke, (Chris Carmack) gets on Ryan's bad side. Seth decides to try to defend Ryan, and a new friendship was born.

9. Lost

There are forty-eight survivors on a plane that crashed on it's way to California from Australia. Now all these people have to figure out how to get rescue crews to see them, and survive all on their own. The first day on the island is dangerous and everyone introduces themselves to each other. There are even some deaths.

8. The Walking Dead

If you know anything about this show, you know that is set in the middle of zombie apocalypse. That is exactly how the series starts. Rick (shown in picture with the breathing tube), is in a coma after and accident while everyone is turning into zombies outside. During the episode he awakes to find his family gone. He then meets a very nice man, Morgan who explains to him how everyone turned into a zombie. It's definitely worth the watch.

7. Friends

I've seen every episode of this show about a million times so I highly suggest you watch it if you haven't already. The show starts out with five friends (Ross, Monica, Joey, Chandler, and Phoebe) drinking coffee in Central Perk. They are having normal conversation and then Rachel pops in and she is in a wedding dress. It turns out that Rachel was supposed to get married but left her husband-to-be at the altar. Because she is so spoiled, the rest of the friends spend the rest of the episode trying to help her make it on her own.

6. Heroes

The first episode of this show is probably self explanatory. They show you how all of the normal human beings discover their superpowers. Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) has the power to duplicate any power. So, because his brother Nathan Petrelli can fly, so can he. Matt Parkman, can read minds which comes in handy with his job as a cop. Isaac Mendez has the power to paint the future. Claire Bennet has the power of rapid cell regeneration. Hiro Nakamura can travel in time. Niki Sanders has super strength and Micah Sanders has telepathy. Seeing how they all find each other, and how they use each of their powers to the best of their ability is really interesting.

5. Gilmore Girls

This is probably one of the best start of any show ever. Lorelai is at Luke's coffee shop, and she says "Luke please please please" because she wants more coffee. He's all grumpy because she drinks a lot of coffee and he knows it's not good for her. But, he's the one that opened a coffee shop so I don't get it. Some guy tries to hit on Lorelai, and she's not having it (girl power!). Her daughter Rory enters and then the man tries to hit on her. Lorelai puts him in his place, and they eat. Rory goes to school and meets up with her friend Lane. Lorelai goes to the Inn, where she sees her best friend Sooki who also works as a chef. She tells her that Rory got into Chilton, a prestigious high school and that she can start that following Monday as long as they put a down payment for tuition. Not having the money herself, she decides to go to her rich parents for it. Turns out that her parents aren't really in her life that often, but give her the money anyway. Even though Rory is excited about Chilton, she gets indecisive when she meets Dean who attends her old high school. After going to dinner at her grandparents' house and hearing that Lorelai asked for the tuition money from them, Rory decides to go to Chilton.

4. Supernatural

The episode starts when Sam is only 6 months old and Dean is about four. Their dad and mom hear Sam crying, so the dad goes in and checks on him. Not hearing from him for awhile, the mom goes in and thinks the dad is standing over Sam's crib. She is mistaken, and it is actually a yellow eyed demon who takes her, puts her on the ceiling, and makes her combust on fire. After hearing her scream, the father goes in Sam's bedroom and sees his wife on fire. He tells Dean to take Sam outside and he tries to defeat the yellow eyed demon. Fast forward about twenty-two years later, and Sam graduated from Standford. He is now in a relationship with a girl named Jess and he has an upcoming law school interview. We learn that he hasn't talked to his father or Dean in a couple years. Sam goes home, and Dean breaks into his house. He thinks it's an intruder and begins fighting him. When he finds out it is, in fact, Dean, he tells him that their dad is missing. They go on a hunt to find their dad and the rest is history.

3. Grey's Anatomy

The show starts out with showing all the interns, Meredith, Cristina, Izzy, George, Alex, and Miranda. They all develop bonds, and they have their own personalities. Meredith actually gets sick looking at a patient. She then falls in love with a doctor Derek Shepherd. It turns out though that Derek is married but his wife is having an affair with his best friend Mark. Twelve years later and they are still doing the same shenanigans.

2. How I Met Your Mother

The episode starts with Ted telling his children in the future that he is going to tell them the story about he met their mother. He introduces all his friends, Lily, Marshall, and Barney. He meets Robin, and instantly falls in love with her. Then Lily and Marshall get engaged. The rest of the episodes all lead up to us meeting his future wife and funny things that happen along the way.

1. This Is Us

The story starts with three people with the same birthday. Jack, Kevin and Kate. We then learn that Randall has a birthday a couple days before all of them. Jack and his wife Rebecca are having triplets. Randall finally meets his deadbeat dad. Kevin is an actor and is totally lost. Kate questions everything about her life and meets a new love interest Toby at one of her weight watcher meetings. It's hard for me to describe, without giving anything away. It's a very intense pilot, and it's the best I've ever seen.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
