I don’t know about you, but if there is one thing I love to see more of on TV besides a great girl squad is a great bromance! The quips, the banter, the love between guys as friends who have each other’s backs and aren’t afraid to show their affection for each other… it just warms my heart! And although there are a TON of TV bromances to choose from, here are my top ten favorites in the category of Best TV Bromances:
Steve McGarrett and Danny Williams – Hawaii Five-O
My all-time favorite TV bromance belongs to the love between Steve McGarrett and Danny Williams on CBS’s Hawaii Five-O. We were first introduced to the pair when the show aired in 2010 and we’ve been in love (well, I have) with them ever since! They fight like a couple that’s been married for 50+ years, call each other “babe,” went to couples’ therapy and a couple’s retreat, and they aren’t afraid to share a manly hug every once in a while. Not to mention their “carguments” are legendary and they’ve earned the “ship” name of McDanno.
Angus MacGyver and Jack Dalton – MacGyver
Second runner up for top TV bromance is the relationship between Angus MacGyver and Jack Dalton on CBS’s MacGyver. The show has only been on the air for a few years now and they are currently in their second season, but so far I am loving the love between these two. Dalton with his Texas twang and MacGyver with those tech skills…*sigh.* Much like McDanno, they keep each other grounded and balance each other.
The Salvatore Brothers, Damon and Stefan – The Vampire Diaries
Damon Salvatore and Alaric Saltzman
It’s ironic that Damon and Alaric would have become such good friends given the fact that Damon turned Alaric’s wife into a vampire and essentially tore his marriage apart, but it does make sense when you think about it. Damon was tortured over losing Katherine and Alaric tortured over losing his wife, both of them set on revenge in the beginning. Yet in the end, bonded over their shared hunting skills and taste for whiskey, these two became an unlikely bromance that I still personally love to this day.
The Winchesters, Sam and Dean – Supernatural
Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster – Psych
Best friends since they were in diapers, Shawn and Gus are the epitome of bromance. From the girlish screams as they run from danger to the classic “Suck It,” to the unintelligible whispers as they argue… how I miss these two! Including the nicknames. Even as they moved in opposite directions near the end of the show, somehow they always came back together for one more case.
Derek Shepherd and Mark Sloan – Grey’s Anatomy: RIP
RIP Shepherd and Sloan. I feel like we didn’t get enough of this bromance before both characters met their end – Mark in season 8, and Derek in season 11. Best friends since childhood, Derek and Mark were inseparable… until Mark had an affair with Derek’s former wife, Addison after they were married. When he showed up at Seattle Grace, Derek opts to punch Mark in the face rather than going for the “so happy to see you man” man-hug. And while things were tense at first between the two, they were able to rekindle their friendship. And then they were dead. Brothers in life and death, right?
Dawson Leery and Pacey Witter – Dawson’s Creek
Anybody else squeal like a twelve-year-old girl over those reunion photos and the video shared by Entertainment Weekly? Twenty years ago Dawson’s Creek gave us a 90s bromance to ship for life – Dawson and Pacey. Best friends since childhood, these two are inseparable, even though they had that whole “I love Joey, no I love Joey” thing on and off beginning with season 3. It was a friendship of simplicity and
Cory and Shawn – Boy Meets World
Of the many 90s TV shows, Boy Meets World definitely had one of the best bromances between Cory and Shawn. From the scrawny preteens to the adults, we’ve seen them grow, fight, come together, drift apart and yet somehow through all of that, they still remained friends to the end. Not even Topanga could come between them.
Greg House and James Wilson – House, M.D.
And last but not least, House and Wilson. Total opposites but yet so perfect. House with his stubborn, gruff exterior and Wilson with his soft yet tough love approach, standing with House through thick and thin… these two will forever be one of my favorite bromances of all time.
